Stunning! I first caught this Russian film which is a collection of five 20 minutes individual stories about Mowgli (though told chronologically and with recurring characters it works effortlessly as one feature film) on HBO as an adolescent. Of course my only knowledge, at the time, of Mowgli was from the Disney animated film The Jungle Book. I was stunned by the mature storytelling and violent elements in the film which is a less cutesy and more faithful adaptation of Rudyard Kipling's original stories. The film doesn't boast the bloated budget of most typical animated features and the creative team compensate for this with stylish, though unlife like, animation and brilliant use of a silhouette-esc style. I highly recommend anyone who love The Jungle Book as a child to hunt down this magnificent companion film.
*The Rotten Tomatoes info on this film is very vague, I hope this is indeed the Russian adaptation I am thinking of and apologize if it is not.
