I can't believe I initially liked this movie. Make no mistake, Amityville '05 is an absolutely abysmal remake. Slaughtering the original, it effectively removes every detail that made the '79 film effective, and offers nothing new in return. Most of the weak scares don't even make sense. Awful!
Better than The Texas Chainsaw Massacure remake, but that isn't saying much. This film does deliver a good number of jumps but that's only because there is so much pop goes the weasel moments in this film. The ending of this film really disapointed and left a sour taste to the film. Definitly worth a rental just don't purchase it though this is a very forgettable film.
It's not really as scary as the other ghost movies I've seen but there was the one scene that almost made me jump off my seat -- the scene in the bathroom where the boy was trying to open the faucet then as the camera panned, there was an ugly ghost right beside him. It's one of those horror movie moments that I would probably never forget.
The problem I had with this movie is Ryan Reynolds...He's just too good-looking to play the bad guy. Well, I guess that's just me but I'd rather see him in rom-coms or hard-action movies rather than play a villain.
A great update to a classic horror film. I didn't think Ryan Reynolds could be convincing as a psycho after all the comedies he's done, but he's great!
the one thing that made me jump the most in this whole film was when reynolds was cutting wood and the axe came down right as they cut to that shot. -bang- I JUMPED. so high.
i mostly had my face hid in my hands/coat/whatever i could find (unfortunately not a guy cause my friend was quite helplessly doing the same).
Now this one is true story to. The killing your family b/c the house told u to, that just makes u look crazy, if not killing ur family is enough. But seeing what was in the basement, just scared the crap out of me, and hearing how they killed the Indians thats just brutal. but i luved it xoxox
this is THE best horror movie about this house that i have ever seen, it had me hiding behind my husband on the couch, now that is a scary movie to make a grown woman hide behind her husband. lol. this movie rocks and ryan renyolds was freaking hot as hell.
Another horror movie that made me laugh at times. Meaning, it wasn't horrible. It was ridiculous and Melissa George plays the same person in every film I've seen with her. I've disliked her since Alias.
The remale had potential. I liked the direction they were taking it with "Jody" being a girl and not a pig... The destroyer of the film was the "green room" that turned out to be some sort of wormhole in time/reality...
It wasn't that scary, but I really liked this. I just loved the whole mood of it. One scene that stood out for me was the one with the babysitter, made the hairs on the back of my neck stand up. A pretty good performance by Ryan Reynolds too.
Very spooky. This movie is more of a creative portrait of the classical horror story. Great cinematography, effects and acting. Even though George's psychological breakdown transgressed way too fast, and the family apparently settled in the house in just one day (no boxes or showings of being just moved in)... It's a pretty cool movie. I liked the music, and the sets, stunts, story... was a no-brainer, But it will surely have you jump on your seat twice at least.
had almost finished it when I got sleepy and fellt like I wasn't in the mood for climbing a dark stair in the middle of the night while the rest of the house was asleep
director andrew douglas debut as the remake version to 1979 with james brolin and margot kidder of the original.
great performed ryan reynolds and scream queen melissa george.
before seeing this, i thought that id probably wouldnt be able to take ryan reynolds seriously after seeing van wilder, but he proved me wrong. this actually scared me a few times
Is this the Old one or the Newer one 'cause the old one was so lame i was laughing through it. The new one though had a dead girl stick a babysitter's finger through a gun shot hole in her HEAD!
i wet myself...
It wasn't really scary bu tit was a good fim to watch with a few friends. I would have prefered it if he actually killed someone in the family. But it was funny the bit with th ebabysitter.
