Marlon Brando's career in the 1960s is certainly not the barren wasteland that it's often proclaimed to be. This is another interesting, albeit flawed movie from the decade that boasts a strong piece of acting from the legendary star. The patience-demanding structure of the film ...( read more)grows mildly tiresome at times, but for the most part I enjoyed the approach. A slick photographic venture, it manages to stay out of the confines of its genre for the most part, with only flashes of cheesy cliche.

Marlon Brando plays Matt Fletcher a bone-weary saddle tramp, tired of life on the range who wants to settle down and breed horses. His dream is shattered when his prize Appaloosa stallion is stolen by a Mexican bandit. Not many critics seem to have liked this film, but I found i...( read more)t enthralling and well shot. The scenery was beautiful and the horse, an Appaloosa, was stunning, So Brando mumbles, but at least you can make out what he's saying unlike some of the dialogue in more modern films. Brando's acting was good as always, and added realism to the plot. All in all a good watch if you like the western genre.

For a modern western, this film maintains a true old west feel while subplots support some interesting quirks in the main characters.

I like Westerns. It's not a great Western, but it's fun, and I'll watch it if it comes on TV and enjoy it. Unusual story which some will think moves too slowly.
