A great cast put together for (yet another) remake that somewhere along the line falls flat. It took a drubbing from critics and fans, but whatever caused this film to fail, it sure as hell wasn't the acting. Nothing wrong there, although I have to say Uma isn't near the beauty Diana Rigg was in that role. Damn she was hot.
Cool movie. The sense of class that encapsulates the entire movie was convincing enough and the premise for the whole film was okey. Though I'm not exactly sure why Sean Connery was dissed so bad for the playing the villian in this movie. He was okey in my book.
The Avengers was one of the cleverest and most original television programmes of the 1960s. Unfortunately this film version is just terrible. Not even the sleek and sexy Uma Thurman in a tight-fitting catsuit can rescue this crock of crap.
Ironically, I was just talking about this movie. Nothing good, mind you, as there is NOTHING good about this piece of...not even Ralph could bring this out of the sewer it belongs in. Do me a favor, skip this and check out the tv classic it's based on. As dated as it probably is by now, it is still tons more entertaining than this. (This is another film that doesn't even deserve a half star)
Sometimes you see a film is about to be made and think "what a great idea, I bet that will be good" then when it finally appears on screen it has turned into crap, well here it is.
Everyone says this is boring, but I love it. Never saw the TV show. The confident flirty Emma Peel by Uma compliments the Stiff and snarky John Steed of Ralph Fiennes perfectly. The story plot is straight out of a comic book but I love the absurd stiffness of the characters with a near obsession.
Not as bad as people make it out to be. A fun adventure film with some of the classic tv show's feel. Uma Thurman was a bad choice for Mrs Emma Peel. A Good Popcorn film.
with such high-profile actors in the billing, this flick should have been waaay more than it was. and what was it? ...basically a yawn-inducing piece of poorly developed crap, cleverly disguised as a big-budget movie.
I saw this in theaters with my mom. I said going in and I quote "How bad could this be Sean Connery doesn't do bad movies..." After falling asleep sometime through I realized that yeah, it sucked the long hard one.
I don't know what the television show was like so I can't compare it to this. Three good leads are put in a movie that doesn't have a single shred of excitement. Fiennes is dull, Thurman is just okay, and Connery seems more like a joke than a villain. Watch this if you want to get some sleep.
