Excellent old time musical with in particular the dancing of Fred Astaire and Cyd Charisse with some of the biggest and most beloved and memorable dance scenes. Oh to have those long long legs like Cyd!

Vincent Minnelli's brilliant musical wth Fred Astaire's most elegant performance. A true classic.

I love Minnelli! If only the real world had his Technicolor touch.
All-round good story but the Edens songbook is the star. Love the sidekick characters of Oscar Levant and Nanette Fabray. Fashions and styles are exquisite.

My favorite dance they do is the one when they are in the park and they find out that a tap dancer and a ballet dancer can dance together.

Astaire! A fabulous musical that doesn't drag with long musical numbers. "Dancing In the Dark" sequence was so beautiful.

    Astaire macks like fuck.

Cyd Charisse is the star of this movie. She has wonderful moves and is quite steamy. There are some great scenes, particularly like the gangster skit and even the TwoFaced woman skit which was cut from the movie and in the special features. The supports are energetic enough and t...( read more)he story is fairly good about a play that is thrown together a bit too shoddily but, when done right, is more paletable to the audience.

    American:
Lots of fun, music and dancing; the ole show within a show.
    Delightful.

Funnier than Singin' in the Rain and has a secret weapon in the form of Jack Buchanan, a one-man entertainment machine. Brilliantly choreographed by Michael Kidd, especially when Astaire and Charisse perform "Dancing in the Dark."

i just saw this the other day

Fred and Cyd....whats not to love? That dance in the park is GREAT!
  • September 6, 2006
Minnelli's musical masterpiece. Elegant, bright, sensual.
  • June 28, 2006
A little bumpy along the way but when Astaire and Charisse are opposite each other, I swear that must be magic in the air. "Dancing In The Dark" is probably the most romantic dance number ever put to film. Also, look for "Triplets" where Astaire, Fabray and Buchanan play baby tod...( read more)dlers; one of the scariest things you'll ever see.

Fred Astaire as the "washed up" song-and-dance man. Charisse is wooden but unobjectable as the love interest. Fred Astaire does some great numbers, and Jack Buchanan is nothing less than hilarious as the director-on-the-fritz.

Probably my most favorite Fred Astaire movie that didn't have his famous partner, Ginger Rogers, in it. Favorite song: The Triplets
