The Bank Job

Jason Statham, Saffron Burrows, Stephen Campbell Moore, Daniel Mays, James Faulkner

In September 1971, thieves tunneled into the vault of a bank in London’s Baker Street and looted safe deposit boxes of cash and jewelry worth millions and millions of pounds. None of it was recovered....( read more  read more... ) Nobody was ever arrested. The robbery made headlines for a few days and then suddenly disappeared - the result of a UK Government ‘D’ Notice, gagging the press. This film reveals what was hidden in those boxes, involving murder, corruption and a sex scandal with links to the Royal Family - a story in which the thieves were the most innocent people involved.A car dealer with a dodgy past and new family, Terry (Statham) has always avoided major-league scams. But when Martine (Burrows), a beautiful model from his old neighborhood, offers him a lead on a foolproof bank hit on London's Baker Street, Terry recognizes the opportunity of a lifetime. Martine targets a roomful of safe deposit boxes worth millions in cash and jewelry. But Terry and his crew don't realize the boxes also contain a treasure trove of dirty secrets - secrets that will thrust them into a deadly web of corruption and illicit scandal that spans London's criminal underworld, the highest echelons of the British government, and the Royal Family itself...the true story of a heist gone wrong...in all the right ways.

I liked The Bank Job a lot. It's not much like the average Jason Statham movie, which I guess can be attributed to the fact that it's based on a true story.

It's nice to see him in a differnet kind of movie for a change. Everything is a little subdued in a British kind of way, ...( read more)and the 70's vibe is definitely a plus. The Banl Job is a very nice crime caper, without most of the less realistic elements of a lot of crime movies.

A smart, stylish, exciting, hard-edged, blisteringly funny and wickedly entertaining crime-thriller. A total blast. A very vintage, clever, enjoyable, pulse-pounding and bold heist film that scores. It's thrilling, tense and alot of fun. It's a real steal. Loaded with twist and t...( read more)ricks that will keep you on the edge of your seat till the very end of this amasing true story that has lots to offer like sex, corruption, thievery, murder and style. Great action and surprises. A sharply written and terifficly crafted movie. It's brilliant, dazzeling and exhilerating. A hip and cool soundtrack of old-school tunes. A thriller that actualley thrills with plenty of brains and humor. A totally enjoyable and relentless ride. Crime hasent been this much fun since Oceans Eleven or The Italian Job. Jason Statham gives a gritty and fantastic performance, showing charm and captivating star power. Saffron Burrows is teriffic. A great cast of charming, compelling and rich characters. An old-school adreniline-fuelled cocktail.

possibly the suprise film of 2008 is a heist film based on mostly true events in london. easily stathams best film, i was blown away by how very interesting and well made this film is. had the film boasted a more recognizeable cast im sure it would have recieved more attention,...( read more) but the well chosen cast was part of why the film was so good. the only thing holding me back from a better score was the excessive and unnecessary smut, but this aside the film was excellent. the fact that the events were mostly true keep anyone from a claim that the film is at all formulaic, which it isnt, and it comes in as one of the better heist films to come out in some time.

It was quite entertaining, especially as Statham wasn't allowed to solo this movie. Otherwise it would had been all about him as we've seen for the last few years.

Brilliant crime caper of a heist gone wrong which is based on a true life story that happened in 1971 involving MI5, the government and an unnamed member of the Royal Family who was photographed in a compromising position (allegedly Princess Margaret!).
