This abbreviated version of the made-for-TV actually works better. Much of the clutter has been trimmed, making for a tighter, more suspenseful tale of a tentacled killer preying on the inhabitants of a small coastal town. More underwater thrills from Peter Benchley, writer of Jaws.
The performances are fine. William L. Petersen is okay as a Richard Dreyfuss-style hero Whip Dalton. Charles Martin Smith is fine as the profit-hungry town owner. Creature effects were great.
