A film with definite good and bad points.

As an adaptation of an Elmore Leonard story, it sucks..... In fact the whole story is just plain dumb, makes no sense and the crosses and double crosses that happen throughout the film are just weak.

In spite of this, I realy enjoyed this flick. Firstly, Hawiai is a character in itself. The film looks gorgeous no doubt about it. Then you have "Ma Sheen". He's very amusing in this essentially playing a very stupid henchman. Owen plays himself, he has a really easy going charm and I can't help but love the guy, even in something like this. Then you have Sara Foster... I can't really comment on her acting abilities, but what I can say is that she is uber hot.... Distractingly so...

For the cast involved, this is no ones finest hour, I get the feeling that the fact that the story was set in Hawiai will have been a huge influence on a majority of the cast taking this gig (and who wouldn't!). I bet Morgan took the gig just so he could wear that earring....

A very dumb story, played out by a game cast, this is very undemanding but incredibly easy on the eye (especially Sara Foster).

Frank: I'm desperate for this money and we're friend, right?
Jack Ryan: Yeah, we're friends. But, you know, it's the type of friendship where if you're in trouble, I probably won't be there for you. Just like I wouldn't expect you to be there for me. It's a more honest friendship. It's not this like phony thing. It's a genuine friendship. I can't trust you. You can't trust me. I'm not gonna take a bullet for you. I'm not gonna jump on a grenade for you.

A laid back con caper/comedy. I wanna use the phrase surfer noir (I should save it for a better movie, but when will I get another chance). And of course it's laid back, it takes place in Hawaii.

Lou Harris: You wanna piss with me?
Jack Ryan: I don't even understand what you're saying. Do I wanna piss with you?

Based off a book by Elmore Leonard, Owen Wilson stars as Jack Ryan, a small-time con artist living in Hawaii. After causing some trouble with a local boss, Gary Sinese, he is fired from a job and makes his way under the eyes of a judge/hotel manager, Morgan Freeman.

Jack also meets the local hottie/con artist Nancy, played by Sara Foster. The two form a relationship of sorts, with Jack showing her some conning. The movie drifts along developing a small caper plot involving some money and twists, before reaching the final ending twist.

Nancy Hayes: Jack, what do you think will happen if that money reaches those thugs.
Jack Ryan: I don't know. They'll probably have a hell of a luau.
Nancy Hayes: I mean to Walter!
Jack Ryan: We'll probably get invited.

The dialog is nice and sharp of course because it is from another book by Elmore Leonard. The Hawaii aspect is also effective because it doesn't just show the same old sights, it does a good job of going to different places. The cast is also in a laid back mode and it's just kind of nice.

It may not ever be seen as a great or memorable movie, but I have a good time watching it.

Bob Rogers, Jr.: You trying to be cute?
Walter Crewes: Now, Junior, who can be cute with you around?
Bob Rogers, Jr.: This is company business, Walter.
Walter Crewes: Does he work for you?
Bob Rogers, Jr.: No, but we paid him off and he agreed to leave.
Walter Crewes: You paid him off because you owed him. Now he doesn't work for you anymore. Right? Right. So if he doesn't want to go anywhere, he doesn't have to. Right? Right.
    Jack Ryan: Right.
Bob Rogers, Jr.: You gonna let him fight your battles for you?
Jack Ryan: Yeah. He seems to be doing a good job.

Actually, not that bad. The director can expose the beauty of Hawaii even just a little piece of that island. The story itself just ordinary, nothing special. The idea was pretty good, but the story didn't make well. A little weak I think... And choosing Owen Wilson as the main character just didn't work. I think he's too enjoyed with his role so he just thought that role same as another role he played in other movie. He just can't improve himself, he didn't realize that even his biggest fans can get bored by his act in comedy movie. Funny but too cliche, people can get bored if they got always the same comedy in other movie he starred...

Great perforamnces and from what I can remember a pretty amusing storyline. It is especially worthwhile too watch it in order to see Morgan Freeman playing a bit of a rogue lovable.

If it's based on a Elmore Leonard novel (Out of Sight, Get Shorty and 3:10 To Yuma) and stars the guy who wrote The Royal Tenenbaums it must be great, right? Wrong. It gets credit for a good cast but loses major points for just not being funny. The sooner you forget it the better.

Humour abounds in this flic about a smalltime crook enjoying the easy life. Bit of a twist here and there adds to it's appeal. Worth a look.

I really enjoyed this movie, Elmore Leonard's writting shone through and the charismatic Owen Wilson was upto the job as usual. A good array of supporting roles which all add their little bits but it's all about Owen Wilson.

Decent plot, horribly directed, dumb dialogue. completely not worth it. If you like movies where people randomly walk around and say random things then youll like it. If you have a brain, you wont.

8-20-07 --Classic Owen Wilson. With Owen in your film how can you go wrong? You don't. This film is a remake of an older film. Don't know much about it. Need to see it. How does a con-man pull one over another con-man? Well, it's not easy, just ask Sara Foster's Character. Owen makes the film. It's nice to have Morgan Freeman in there giving the movie acting chops. Go Owen!!!

I saw this in the theater, since any movie with Owen Wilson and Morgan Freeman has to be good, right? I was one of four (yes four!) in attendance that night, and two walked out halfway through the movie. I wish I was one of those two.

So many great actors and such a bad, boring, not even surprising story makes this movie OK. But just because the actors try to save the movie.

A light and frothy Hawaiian caper. Frankly, it lacked in plot and Owen Wilson and Sara Foster bored me to tears. You gotta love Morgan Freeman and Gary Sinise though.

I am Hawaiian so it was nice to see pictures of the island I love so much. All in all this movie was a good movie for us beach watchers... = D Following the tale of a theif making his living on the great Hawaiian islands, the final twist is all good.

Beautiful Scenery, an almost dream cast, taken from the page of a credited author... what could have gone wrong?

The answer is: pretty much everything.

Morgan Freeman and Gary Sinise don't belong in this codswallop. Owen Wilson can swim in it all he wants, everyone knows he's settling into the groove of making laid-back silly sap movies like this, so it doesn't matter.

Unfortunately, the credited actors are underused to the point of combustion, and Owen Wilson is vamped up in every scene, adding nothing to, in fact taking away from the script, whatever little there was left to take.

Made as a nice paid getaway holiday for the cast, The Big Bounce is just a Big boring mess. What could have been an intreguing tale of corruption, thievery and sarcastic relationships, The Big Bounce fails on every angle, except for the scenery, of course and the soundtrack, which is completed by Australia's own Jet and their breakthrough song Are You Gonna Be My Girl, which I'm sorry to have something critical of even that, but has nothing t do with what happens in the story, almost the opposite.

There is no chemistry between actors, no one seems to care, and everyone seems to be hanging for their lunch break where they can lay back with their head in the sun and bathe or go for a trip on their speed boat.

The ending is completely confusing, and doesn't explain anything. It seems to be trying to fit the movie's quota of entertainment value into 20 seconds, wasting the previous 87 minutes and 40 seconds.

Shameless stuff, Mr. George Armitage, and you have wasted the time of every paying viewer and actor.

Good plot, has a good twist at the end that you never see coming because it does not give you any hints that its coming. Funny and Sara Foster is really hot.

There was one line of dialogue I liked in this movie but otherwise it truly, truly sucked. It was a contrived piece of shit that few films can match.

Elmore Leonard is wonderful, but this one is a little weak. Coming from someone who has read them all, we NEED Pagan Babies and Tishamingo Blues...ASAP.
