For some, this movie might seem quite boring. What's the point in watching three men talking in one room for almost two hours?! But tell you what?.. this movie is not boring at all! There's almost no storyline to speak of, but the script is more than beautiful. It will turn you into one big attentive ear. In addition, Kevin Spacey with his wonderful performance and entertaining sense of humor and wit made this movie a must-see. The movie doesn't want you to side with any of the three characters; it simply displays three different samples of human nature, and their views on the world (especially the concept of appearance vs reality).

Set in a single hotel room, Danny Devito, Christian Bale, and Kevin Spacey, discuss aging, faith, and what it means to be a salesman. All actors at the top of their game, Christian Bale as the young conservative Christian newlywed on his first assignment, Kevin Spacey as the middle aged jocular fast talker(similar to American Beauty), and Danny Devito as the suicidal old goat, ready to throw in the towel. Religion and Buisness clash, and boil over in the films final moments, and best of many dialogues.
Like all single setting films, this resembles a play, however with oneiric fantasies of the characters as they'd like to see themselves, keep the movie afloat.
I can't really think of anything I didn't like about this movie.
I absolutely adore thinking movies. This movie was very dialouge driven, chock-full of memorable quotes. It's is an intriguing, philosophical movie about character, understanding the self, and faith.
rather serious movie, has some interesting points to make about the way people live their lives whether they are "selling" their religion or living as their own god
Great drama, not as much humor as i would have liked.... i really did wanna hit Bob at some stage.... okay, pretty much every time he opened his mouth, i think this film is awesome
well, to favor, we can say that it has interesting dialogs and good performances (kevin spacey is always great); in against, that sometimes it has an alarming lack narrative force, though it improves with the end. developed almost all in a hotel room, it is not capable of making you forget about that point, and it's a pitty; but the most interesting parts of the film happen there, just talking face to face about farming lubricants or whatever, but really trying to explain the inner sense of life...
There's often depth in the discussions, and other than that, some very clever, ironic, fun things said by Larry (Spacey). The topics slide together smoothly, one after another, which is the appeal of this movie I think.
All in all, though, the matters of religion that were pushed in by the end of the movie didn't really appeal to me, and the movie in itself is about the connection/reactions between three men - and that's pretty much all there is to the plot.
A good watch, good acting, but not really my type of movie all in all.
Well written and acted dialogue-driven film, something rare these days, about the dog-eats-dog world of big company business. It does get preachy towards the end, and way too religious, but it's still an enjoyable ride. With the 3 leads very spot on in their roles.
Yeah really liked this one, it relies mainly on the script, and wording and stuff, which was really good, powerful stuff-especially Devitos character describing his dream...
Different views of life, love, business and religion are all discussed in this play that became a great film. Kevin and Danny are solid and Peter Facinelli keeps up with them with a fantastic performances as the new kid in the biz.
based on a play, it was more like i was watching a play than a movie, and i really liked that. something different. and i love kevin spacey. danny devito too is excellent. more of a character study than an actual story, but thoroughly entertaining, funny, deep, and also a bit sad.
I love this movie. It is a lot like watching a play, if you are into that kind of thing. Starts off funny as hell, then turns into a serious examination of self.
I saw Danny De Vito and thought this is gonna be good so after an hour and still the same three characters in the same room my eyes began to glaze over - then the phone rang and I thought I will stick with it cos I think I know how it will end - but ended like it started - with no great aplomb. Not impressed.
It's more of a play really, caught on tape. One room with three men in it. That's it. Still It's more thrilling than any car chasing, house wrecking movie ever made.
