Seeing this after the immense box office and ridiculous Oscar whispers, it's impossible to avoid how overrated it is. This in no way puts the film down. In hard economic times this is the perfect film. It's feel good, has a message about helping people, and has somebody taking on...( read more) all of life's hardships and coming out on tops. On top of that, Bullock is well cast as a sassy, touch, but still motherly figure. It has bits of humour and plenty of places for emotion. It is aimed at the widest audience possible, which gets in the way of some of the more interesting/ambiguous issues, and there is a sickly "hooray for white people" vibe at times, but if it's well made, solid entertainment you are after, you could do a lot worse.

The Blind Side is an inspiring true story chronicling NFL player Michael Oher's troubled path to stardom. Abandoned and homeless with no where to turn, Michael is taken in by a local white family who help lead him in the right direction and help him fulfill his potential....( read more)

One of the feel-good movies of 2009, The Blind Side will tug on your emotions. These heart-warming true stories have a tendency to do so. Sandra Bullock brings plenty of life to her role as Leigh Anne Touhy, delivering a compassionate, yet tenacious performance as the rigid adopted mother. I don't know if she is catching any Oscar buzz for this role, but she could be a darkhorse for this outstanding performance.

As realistic as this film may be, it still had its share of trite moments. Upscale, blonde hair, white women cannot march into the ghetto and tell people off and expect to come out unharmed. And then there were the overly dramatic scenes that will leave you rolling your eyes, like when Bullock's character phoned the coach from the stands, or when Oher was penalized for "excessive blocking." These nuisances don't hinder the overall message of the film, but they do prevent it from being great.

The Blind Side is easily the best sports drama in recent years. Fans of Remember the Titans or Friday Night Lights will be pleased. This is a dignified portrayal of self-discovery for both Michael and the Touhys. The end credits show pictures of the real Michael Oher and the Touhy family which serves to remind us this isn't just a film based on a true story, it IS a true story.

I tend to avoid movies with Sandra Bullock in, just because I know they'll probably be very average romantic comedies. But after someone with fine taste in movies suggested it to me, I thought I should give it a shot. And you know what? It was actually pretty good. Not as a film,...( read more) but as a subject matter. I'm generally very pessimistic and doubtful towards humanity's kindness, but this movie proved me that good, accepting, wonderful people exist in real life. I cared for the characters, the two hours flew by, and even though I don't care at all for movies with Christians or baseball in, I got quite invested. The performances were highly likable, and even though not a directional masterpiece, it goes to places and warms your heart.
