Surpasses the original with Frank Darabont as one of the screenwriters. The targeted audience are teenagers, so those watching this to compare with the original will find that it has much less cheesiness, and therefore, a different kind of "classic" feeling. The original is one of my all time favourite films. I love it so much. From the bizarre opening theme tune to Steven McQueen a) being called Steven and b) trying to play a teenager. On the fence here...I haven't seen the original so I can only judge this remake, but this movie in itself, as I have read, has come under heavy negative critisism due to the movie's changes from the original, most notably being the Blob's new origin as a government experiment gon... ...( read more )

I remember this came on tv when I was about 9 or 10...it was a Sunday afternoon...nothing to do. My sister and I actually watched the whole thing! lol...

Remakes usually suck...but this is one of the few exceptions. This one actually surpasses the original in every way. Great acting, FX, storyline, and direction make this one of the most fun horror movies around.
