The Bride of Re-Animator Reviews and Ratings

Just as crazy and hilarious as the first, Jeffrey Combs is amazing. I love how he can come across as nuts, smart and funny all in one. The plot was really good, it kept you involved the entire time. I think what made it such a good follow up is that it gave you everything you lov...( read more)ed from the original and enhanced it. The ruthless and gross out gore was done oh so classy.

A solid gore romp brought to you by Dr. Herbert West. I have to say I just love the West character, really brings these movies home for me. Jeffrey Combs puts a lot of effort into his performance so he can be over the top and zany but still very likable. His position is an intere...( read more)sting one, being the cause of all the bad stuff that happens but not the "villain" of the series. I didn't mind that this borrowed from Bride of Frankenstein. The story took the idea and expounded on it enough to make it original. It's also awesome to see Bruce Abbott and David Gale reprise their roles, especially Gale, who made for a great antagonist. Unfortunately this is the low point in the series. Not much of a low point, but one nonetheless. Maybe just a bit of tightening up the script's West-less moments could have done wonders. Still an enjoyable flick.

It never builds to the measured nuttiness of the first film, but this sequel does manage to impress with some great special effects and more of West's horribly ill-advised experiments that will never come to a good end.

It's a fun ride, but doesn't have the iconic images that co...( read more)me to mind from the first film, which is sad, but it's worth a look.

Give it a look, if you're like me and hadn't seen it all these years later.

Not quite as good as the first but lots of gore and lots of fun. Couldn't help but feel sad for the bride though *sniff*
  • September 17, 2009
Truthfully...they didn't have to make the first one, but they did and they made this one too"
  • August 24, 2009
Ok, but nowhere near as good as the first.

Herbert West (Jeffrey Combs) and Dan Cain (Bruce Abbott) continue to experimenting with bringing the dead back to life, and this time they are trying to build a perfect woman, however the head of Dr. Carl Hill is out to get his revenge. Sadly this sequel to "Re-Animator" turned o...( read more)ut to be pretty much just a big mess, the storyline is boring and what seems to be a simple one is made confusing and complicated for no good reason. But it has some notable special effects and can be worth watching if you liked the first movie.

A decent sequel to one of the best horror films to come out of the 80's. The story picks up eight months after the first movie, and after an out-of-place opening, things pretty much go as expected. Herbert West brings his crazy dead experiments to life, things go wrong, so he k...( read more)eeps bringing more crazy dead experiments to life. Of course, as the title suggests, this time he's creating life (or his "bride", as it were) rather than just bringing dead people back to life. Jeffrey Combs and Bruce Abbott are great fun to watch again, the film is extremely gory and over-the-top, but gone is all the great black comedy from the original movie. And the return of Dr. Hill's talking head seems pointless and forced. Things also tend to drag and repeat themselves quite a lot until the third act. I suspect this is because Brian Yuzna obviously isn't half the director Stuart Gordon is. Gordon's touch is sorely missed and is the main reason this sequel only ends up being average.

My favorite of the RE-ANIMATOR films!
  • June 9, 2009
It was alright, but what is the deal about the war scene in the beginning? But at least Jeffrey Combs, Bruce Abbott and David Gale returned to the sequel unlike most films that find replacements.

An awsome sequal. my favorite full moon relesease

    Dan Cain: I'm moving out.
Dr. Herbert West: Dan, you can't turn your back on this, this is the key to creating life. Parts... re-animated parts!
Dan Cain: We're trying to save whole people, not parts.
Dr. Herbert West: Exactly! And what are people over and above a collection of living parts? We can create new life!
Dan Cain: This morbid doodling with human body parts... is this what it's all about? Is this what all our great work has led to?
Dr. Herbert West: Exactly what are you insinuating?
Dan Cain: This is madness... it had nothing to do with me!
Dr. Herbert West: Oh, I see!
    Dan Cain: No!
Dr. Herbert West: Oh, I didn't see. I didn't see you rejecting my work when Meg was lying there dead. Where were your great ideals then?
    Dan Cain: Don't!

Doctor Carl Hill: Don't you ever do that again, you mental midget!
Dr. Graves: Oh God, I'm losing my mind.
Doctor Carl Hill: I have some unfinished business and you will assist me.

Dr. Herbert West: Blasphemy? Before what? God? A God repulsed by the miserable humanity He created in His own image? I will not be shackled by the failures of your God. The only blasphemy is to wallow in insignificance. I have taken refuse of your God's failures and I have triumphed. There! THERE is my creation!

Well, I'm a bit puzzled as to why Dan would have come back to Herbert in the first place, but, oh well -- it makes for more movie, doesn't it?

Pretty much what I expected -- average flick that's not going to appeal to a wide audience other than those who are fans of the origin...( read more)al. Given that I am one of said people, I did have fun watchin' it.

With Dr. West, it's hard not to have fun, though.

great fun! brain yuzna is one hell of a director and its great seeing david gale in one of his last performces may he rest in peace. jeffrey combs again prooves why he is so awsome in roles like this!

    awesome! HERBERT WEST!
  • July 30, 2008
Crazy-Fun effects. Loved the dog with the human hand!
  • July 25, 2008
Just as quirky as its predecessor, and still a great deal of fun! Fans of the original will find nothing to complain about here, and it's easy to follow for newcomers. A worthy sequel!
  • June 22, 2008
Very twisted, much more so but not as humorous as Re-Animator and thankfully not as completely stupid as Beyond Re-Animator. Very good sequel that didn't just try to copy elements from the original.
A very nice twist on The Bride Of Frankenstein.

O primeiro é melhor (obvio), mas esse aqui tem seus momentos. Especialmente a cabeça. Huahuahhauhau
  • February 25, 2008
Actually closer to the HP Lovecraft story than the first.
  • February 19, 2008
This is actually a pretty faithful adaption of the Lovecraft story. Bride is nowere near as cool as the original, but still has enough surreal charm to make it stand out. Combs performance is maniacal. Yuzna lacks the visual eye that Staurt Gordon has but still makes a fun film.
  • February 15, 2008
It's still wonderful made and scary as well ;)

This guy just wants to bring some folks back!

It's been a while since I last watched BRIDE OF RE-ANIMATOR, but I remember it as one of the best trash movies from the 80s. Upon a recent rewatch I must admit that there were quite a few times when I was looking at my watch or at other things I could do with the film playing in ...( read more)the background. It hasn't held up all that well, but still gets my vote for nostalgic reasons.
  • November 21, 2007
While not as good as the first film, this one is still entertaining as hell with outrageous effects by Screaming Mad George. I haven't seen it in a long time and I'm scared to ruin the memories considering what I think of director Yuzna's output now.
  • November 1, 2007
Not interested. I usually avoid horror movies.
  • September 30, 2007
I don't want to give this a bad rating, but it just wasn't enjoyable.
  • September 12, 2007
Insane sequel that ditches most of the originals smarts and replaces it with amped up schlock. Not that thats a completly bad thing. The effects are far sharper this time round plus some of the concepts are just too good (two words: bat wings). Silly nonsense.
  • August 20, 2007
Would like to get round to seeing!
  • August 20, 2007
It's a disappointing sequel to the original "Re-animator" because it really copies the "Bride of Frankenstein" storyline too much and still has nothing to do with H.P. Lovecraft's tale.
It's still quite good though because you get to see lots of Fabiana Udenio. She isn't much of...( read more) an actress but she's quite a babe.
With its larger budget, you can't fault the film for gore effects or humour either but it's just not as fresh...

they talk about this movie in American Beauty
  • August 10, 2007
more of the same old fun
  • August 5, 2007
i prefer it to the first one, more gore, more laughs, more fun!
  • July 24, 2007
Not as good as the first but still there's enough gory fun to be had with the "crazy and persistent" Herbert West!
  • July 22, 2007
Not as much fun as the original, but certainly as unique. I love the 'lets reanimate EVERYTHING!' attitude in this one, and the effects are pretty impressive.
  • July 15, 2007
    Excellent entry in the series
  • July 12, 2007
Bride - not the original - but Yuzna still kicked our asses!
  • June 30, 2007
Not as good as the original, but not a bad sequel. And they try to up the crazy blood and freak stuff.
  • June 24, 2007
Meh. Not the best sequel ever.
  • June 23, 2007
Bride of Re-Animator has a lot of the same vibe as the original film. Yuzna steps up the grossness factor in this movie with the building of the woman. It's not AS strong as the original, but it's darned close.
  • June 20, 2007
Very decent sequal, not anywhere near as fun as the succeding film or as creepy as the preceding one. Still a good watch.
  • June 15, 2007
if you did not like the first one Re-animator you will not like this one either.
