If you want to see the promise and potential of Gary Busey before his drug-induced psychosis enveloped his entire being, this is the film to watch. Busey's portrayal of the legendary rock-n-roll pioneer is absolutely brilliant. He even sings all of Buddy's songs himself. Gary Busey is a walking, talking testament to the belief that the line between genius and madness is a thin one. Much like Buddy Holly himself, Busey is a star that burned out all too quickly.

An unexpected old school beauty. I crashed my mother's film watching time and decided to watch this with her, and I'm so glad I did. I didn't know anything about Buddy Holly prior to seeing this, and well.. I have a new found respect for him, his band mates, and his music.

The songs he wrote are catchy. I couldn't resist singing along to most of them, which made it even more enjoyable viewing. I couldn't believe how many songs I knew!

It was odd seeing a much younger Gary Busey playing the part of Buddy Holly, but he was so well suited to the part. All the supporting cast were great. The film has a 'B-Grade' feel to it, but that can be forgiven seeing as it was made almost thirty years ago.

This is one of the best biopics I've seen. A true insight into the life of an old school rock n roll star. It was sad though. Yet another young talent who's life was taken too early.

If you like true stories, music, or you were a fan of Buddy Holly's, check this film out! You shouldn't be disappointed. If you weren't a fan before seeing this, it's likely you will be after.

Oh, Gary Busey, what happened to you man? Oh right: you forgot to wear a helmet... Enjoyable film. Obviously, Busey at his best.

Busey pre-head injury was a tough act to follow (hence the well deserved Oscar nomination). If you dig music - watch it. If you dig good movies - watch it. You can't really lose either way.

Gary Busey gives a terrific performance in this biopic on the short life of rock 'n' roll legend Buddy Holly. The supporting cast were all really good and the music was great (Busey himself did all of his own singing). Also it is nice to finally watch a music biopic on someone who didn't fall into a drug addiction. While it doesn't have much weight as other films in the genre but this is a very entertaining one none the less.

Gary Busey was 35 years old playing a 19 year old...how messed up is that...lol

Gary kicked ass both in singing and acting like Buddy Holly. I really liked this production and so did the Academy.

It's okay. I think they could have picked someone else to portrait Buddy Holly other than Gary Busey.

Gary Busey is what makes this movie a good movie. Typical Hollywood movie that takes and rewrites history to supposedly make a better movie out of real life.

This is a really good film. There may have been innaccuracies regarding Buddy Holly's life, but to me, those are minor quibbles. Garey Busey is excellent in an Oscar-nominated performance as Holly, doing his own singing and playing. Terribly underrated, this film is most definitetly worth checking out and very enjoyable.

Never mind the biographical inaccuracies. Those are minor quibbles. The heart of this movie is Gary Busey's engaging, stunning, Oscar-nomiated performance as Holly, singing with his own voice and playing guitar. An underrated gem.

    1. The dude didn't look a thing like Buddy Holly
    2. I don't know, but those two kids who came in with the broken guitar made me laugh. :)

This movie seemed very earnest in portraying Holly's life. Probably the best work Gary Busey's ever done.
