Heartfelt story that's - aside from Kristen Stewart and Bruce Dern - rather poorly acted and kind of boring. Not a terrible movie, but nothing special either.

This movie was adorable. Kristen Stewart did a great job in this. I didn't think it was long enough though.

Many reasons why I like this film. First, I am seeing what an amazing actor Kristen Stewart really is. Second, I love Mary Stewart Masterson. Thirdly, to my surprise I was greeted with The Frames music in the beginning. The list could go on... Loved this movie.

I love Mary Stuart Masterson, so I had to see this knowing that she directed it. The Cake Eaters was an OK film. The whole "falling in love with someone who is dying from a disability" story has been told before. "Dying Young" or "Untamed Heart" come to mind.
This film was very f...( read more)rustrating for me. There is some great acting talent here. Bruce Dern, Elizabeth Ashley... Kristen Stewart did a great job at playing Georgia, I will give her that. Aaron Stanford also did well playing Beagle. They had good chemistry and made the audience gravitate in on them. But then it just got frustrating...
I can see where and how this film could have been great. The story was a good one, but it spun off in too many directions, not really explaining any of them well. And it was like someone said " Oh well we're almost to an hour and a half, we should just end it ....here..." And everything is left all unraveled. You get no closure to any of the relationships or know what happens to any of them. That was such a disappointment for me.
The Cake Eaters isn't a horrible film. It's disappointing to watch, only because you can see the shadow of something great, that they only scratched the surface of.

Pretty decent, it actually shows a different side of Kristen Stewart away from Twilight. This film is about two families from a small town who have a history with one another and how they are dealing with the present together.

Good plot, but it wasn't long enough and felt cut off...

I must admit I am pretty impressed by Kristen Stewart's performance in the 'Cake Eaters'. She is very convincing as a disabled young girl suffering from Freidreich's ataxia. I noticed her for the first time in 2002 in 'Panic Room', seeing the potential as she starred next to Jodi...( read more)e Foster without falter. Also I loved her performance in 'Adventureland'. That's what made me look back into her filmography (and not "Twilight") and that's how I discovered the "Cake Eaters". There is even a discussion of Stuart being nominated for an Oscar this year- we'll see. Maybe too early for that, then again who knows?

I think Mary Stuart Masterson did a great job with this film which is also, notably, her first as a director. The simplicity and the humanity that's the core of this film make it an amazing story to watch. It leaves a good taste if you feel it with your heart- and not just with your eyes.

I love the general plot to the film, but was disappointed on the running time. It had such a great character buildup, but then it ended just like that. I would like to have seen how the relationship turned out between Aaron Stanford and Kristen Stewart. Or maybe how her parents w...( read more)ould of felt about it. I've only ever seen Stanford in the X-Men series as Pyro and seeing this film showcases his diversity as an actor. But, the main character here has to be Georgia (Kristen Stewart), a teenage girl with Friedreich's Ataxia; an incurable disease that effects coordination and speech. Her sole purpose in life was to experience "love" before she died. Each character had their own story to tell, but the film belonged to Stewart and Stanford.

Kristen Stewart is lovely, as is Masterson's beautifully crafted first film. full review

Masterson, like many actors, is an assured director even in her debut; working with her brother Pete as cinematographer, she creates a spell and a tenderness and pushes exactly as far as this story sh... full review
