this movie and descent must be seen, cause really you can understand the difference between man & woman.. four man tries to help each toher to get out, but the women in Descent... amazing....watch both of them
I watched this movie with low expectations, given all the critical panning it received. But it wasnt that bad. But then again I watched it on cable, and avoided paying $7+ to see it in a theatre, which can make many movies seem more worth it.
There was no real character development, but it was nice and creepy to watch. And I liked the last 30 seconds of the ending.
I would probably give it 2 1/2 stars, but the ending deserves the boost to 3 stars.
I'm only giving it a 3 'cos the fit bloke from Invasion is in it, and it's also nice to see the Coyote bird in something else! The film - a cross between the descent, & Alien - pretty shit to be fair!
I watched this movie with low expectations and thats why I enjoyed it. It wasn't slow paced and I thought the des ign of the demon-like creatures were pretty cool. Good shots, good editing, decent actors, looked good, and hey.. they writing wasn't so bad. They shifted the focus from discovery to survival and I thought it was a fairly smooth transition. It was good for what it was.
Two very similar films came out at the same time, this one and a British film called The Descent. I found the Descent a far superior to this one although this was a pretty good film. Typical Americanisms in it though. Too many guns, too many tough guys. Entertaining though. Worth watching.
Pure boredom.
The only way i stood awake through the whole movie was my friend and i joking around with it. A snoozefest about people investigating a large cave and finding monsters. The only cool thing about this movie is..well, i don't want to spoil it, but even it was not enough to redeem this boring piece. No stars for you.
This was one bad movie. Nice idea, executed terribly. The ending scene was completely unnecessary and the winged creatures were ridiculous. No way were those once humans... I'm sorry. Want to watch a good cave movie? See The Descent. It was much better than this dreary, boring, mess.
GPD on this one. I think this is a definite watch at home film, and not a cinema experience, and if you're looking for high class don't look here. Still it has its moments, and Lena Headey does a great job in this one...
A rather uninteresting Survival Horror complete with nondescript monsters ripped straight from Alien and bland characters. One of the most maddening features of this movie is that it's almost entirely filmed in blue for a cave effect. Could we not have some, I don't know, purple or something? The entire overall effect is actually rather depressing.
Again, here is an example of a movie that tries to hard to have a twist ending at the end and instead only accomplishes to make the movie worse. Aside from that, the movie plot is entertaining and the action is comparable to that found in the Alien movies.
Bad start, bad climax, bad ending, BADMOVIE! im talking about bad in a negitive way not a postive way. the story line is really ghey and the ending is just terrible. its about some group that go into this cave and get killed off one by one and then in the end its not a monster just some deluded guy that was brought up there running around in a monkey suit. hes kinda like a cave man.. a real dissapointment, never watch it again !
The Cave was released in Britain around the same time The Descent was in order to compete with it. Take a look at the critical and box-office receptions of both films, then decide for yourself which is better.
usually a horror film will have a sense of evil, menace or ......horror. but this doesnt do what a horror films should do for several reasons; first all the characters are blatant stereotypes the all American do goody, the hard man who argues with everyone, the big coloured guy who's everyones best friend, the scantily clad attractive woman (although i wont complain about that one so much),the dark and mysterious team leader WITH A SECRET! some Korean guy in there for political correctness and the good looking brainy female scientist, and some old guy. 2nd......we've seen it all before. it's badly written, poorly directed, and the acting is...shit. just dont waste your time with this one
What differentiates "The Cave" from other horror films is the setting. The plot takes place mostly in a large cave, some of which is underwater.
By far, the best element of this film is the underground scenery. The sets are realistic, with spaces and formations that one might see in certain large caverns. And, the film nicely conveys a sense of vertical scale, as we watch cavers climb rock walls, and explore huge rooms with towering ceilings.
The problem here is that the film's director is so committed to an action plot that the camera rarely stays in one scene long enough for the viewer to have a sense of place. We thus forgo the thrill that an underground environment could provide. There's no feeling of amazement, no claustrophobia from tight crawlways, no real fear of any kind. The film's fast pace, combined with characters we barely know and care nothing about, thus dilutes the intended suspense.
The cinematography is flashy and very technical. The lighting is appropriately subdued with interesting colors and unusual camera angles. The background music is somewhat intrusive. Dialogue is weak. And the actors, who appear to be in their twenties, are all photogenic, straight out of central casting. The monsters, what we see of them, seem slightly hokey.
Overall, "The Cave" will appeal to viewers who like horror films set in unusual environments, wherein the pace is super fast, and there is a ton of action. Viewers looking for a credible story will need to exit the cave ... quickly.
when i first heard about this movie and saw the previews to it i was like "that movie looks so stupid"
then i watched it and my mind changed in a second... it has some good action in it
