tobey maguire is always boring... the film itself is dull and always predictable. michael caine is the only saving grace but his influence is impotent against the onslaught of monotony

A truly mesmerising period story with shining casting and a emotional story which deserves to be rewatched and watched by all. A successful hash of the novel which could have been disaster.
