I love Martin Scorsese films but this one really failed to please me. It was pretty entertaining and all but it really doesn't make out to be a good movie. All throughout the movie i kept thinking that Johnny Depp would have fit the role of Vincent better. I really hated the endi...( read more)ng and let me say that this is one of the worse endings i have seen in a movie. I thought it was going to be another good Tom Cruise movie but i really got my hopes up.

Paul Newman is fantastic in his classic role frome The Hustler. One of his performances. A superb flick. Scorsese delivers another well crafted film. Brilliantly acted, teriffcially written and wonderfully shot.

This has got to be Martin Scorcese's most tragically overlooked film.
  • August 10, 2006
Great movie! Pool IS a sport!

    I love this film.

Many think this is a film about Tom Cruise's character but the reality is, this is about Fast Eddie Felson. Everything that happens is about Eddie going back to his youth and getting back what he lost and what he was forced to give up. In a way, he is doing wha...( read more)t was done to him but in a good way. He wants to be better. You could argue this is because he owes it to Sarah but that might be reading inot it too much, especially seeing as he has a new flame in the film anyway.

    Still back to the filn.
The three main characters are all nicely played, with Eddie being more or less the same as before, Cocky, confident, knowing and full of pride in what he does. Vince is young, brash and a showboat. Both are very similar but different in the parts that matter. Eddie knows what he is doing. Vince is just winging it; typical hollywood father/son stuff.

Like the hustler, this is clearly a character film and the pool only serves as a tool to describe and act as a metaphor for how the people relate to each other and when it does feature in a central role, it still only serves to show how they are feeling, particularly when Eddie Picks up the cue.

Ends a bit abruptly though and doesn't really feel complete. I know that I personally, would've liked to have seen more of Fast Eddie Felson after he says the last line of the film:
    "I'm back"

  • July 2, 2006
Paul Newman won his Oscar for this? Come on!
  • July 2, 2006
Or as I like to call it, a thousand and one ways to film the game of pool.
  • June 22, 2006
not as good as the hustler but close very close
  • June 19, 2006
Newman and Cruise, a match made.
  • June 18, 2006
Great filmmaking, good performances all around, and some amazing photography of the pool scenes.
  • June 15, 2006
If anyone has the right to make a sequel to The Hustler, it's Martin Scorsese.
  • June 13, 2006
Near excellent sequel to "The Hustler" Common sense dictates that one should never attempt to make a sequel to a well-regarded classic film, but director Scorsese defies the odds and manages to create one of the few sequels to a great movie that actually works.

Plot Summary/Po...( read more)ol hustler Fast Eddie Felson finds the young, promising pool player Vincent in a local bar and he sees in him a younger version of himself. To try and make it as in the old days, Eddie offers to teach Vincent how to be a hustler. After some hesitations Vincent accepts and Eddie takes him and Vincent's girlfriend Carmen on a tour through the country to work the pool halls.
  • June 13, 2006
Great acting all the way through
  • June 11, 2006
Could have been much better. Plus I really don't like Tom Cruise
  • June 8, 2006
    Best pool movie ever!
  • June 8, 2006
Tho Newman reprises his role of Fast Eddie and is still as cool as they come, Cruise ruins this movie. This sould have been more about Newman and less about a not so well known Cruise.
  • June 7, 2006
I consider this to be one of the greats in movies.
  • June 5, 2006
two of the most gorgeous men!
  • June 4, 2006
A solid movie about the "sport" of pool.
  • May 22, 2006
Who makes a sequel after 25 years? Not a bad film, but not in the same league as The Hustler.
  • May 6, 2006
The story is pretty average but the chemistry between Newman and Cruise as mentor and disciple is so fantastic.
  • May 5, 2006
One of Scorsese's misfires sees Paul Newman reprise his Hustlert role in this pool rites of passage drama with an upstart Mr Cruise trying to prove he is the best.
  • May 1, 2006
Love This Sequel To The Great Film "The Hustler".. Paul Newman Plays His Role Again As Eddie Felson With Quality And Tom Cruise Is Also Great In This
  • April 3, 2006
Amazing film, both Newman & Cruise do own trick shots apart from the Masse.
