Plot: The Discworld - a magical realm quite unlike, yet hauntingly familiar to, ours - has got it's first tourist. Rincewind (David Jason), an inept ex-student wizard is given the task of guiding Twoflower ...( read more read more... )(Sean Astin) through the city state of Ankh Morpork. Rincewind has two problems: firstly, as an expert coward, he doesn't feel he's the best person to guard a naive - and extremely rich, by local standards - tourist through one of the roughest cities in the multiverse. And secondly, the world is coming to an end. Never rains, eh?

It was certainly a pleasant surprise to catch this one.

I assume everyone has his own way of seeing and understanding the Discworld series, and certain things don't entirely match mine, but the movie is still great. A bit too slow at times.

If you're a Terry Pratchett fan, definitely consider watching it!

A fairly faithful rendition of Pratchett's Discworld. On screen the plot still fails to make much sense which is a pity. The two leads seem a bit miscast in relation to the books, but they work. Cohen the barbarian is a definite hilight, as is the genuinely excellent production design. Some decent CGI blends in well to bring some of the more fantastic scenes to life.

So, a good effort. Probably the best Discworld outing as of now.

If you are a fan of Terry Pratchett's Discworld or just fantasy in general, this is a good and entertaining watch. Although it might not be the best adaptation of the book, it was serviceable. Rincewind was pretty funny and the scenes with Death were just awesome. It might have been a bit slower than it should have, but it was fun either way.
