Brian Cox, Christopher Lee, David Bradley

The Discworld - a magical realm quite unlike, yet hauntingly familiar to, ours - has got it's first tourist. Rincewind (David Jason), an inept ex-student wizard is given the task of guiding Twoflower ...( read more  read more... )(Sean Astin) through the city state of Ankh Morpork. Rincewind has two problems: firstly, as an expert coward, he doesn't feel he's the best person to guard a naive - and extremely rich, by local standards - tourist through one of the roughest cities in the multiverse. And secondly, the world is coming to an end. Never rains, eh?

pretty close to the book. It'd be a great intro to people unfamiliar with Terry Pratchett's Discworld books. This is actually 2 books in two parts of the movie. Each part being 2+ hours long. And the casting of Jeremy Irons as the Patrician of Ankmorpork was perfect. Christopher ...( read more)Lee as DEATH was also good.

Fans of Terry Pratchett's Discworld series will find much to love in this amazing adaptation of the first novel. 'Hogfather' was great and this is similarly fantastic and true to the mythos. David Jason and Sean Astin are great fun and the book is brought to life faithfully with ...( read more)one-liners intact. It does get a little long, but there is plenty to introduce here. Undoubtably the start of something great for fans of Pratchett. Bring on 'The Light Fantastic'!!!!

This was then second Discworld live action film (Hogfather was first). I like this one even more. It is the story of Rincewind the banished wizard showing a rich tourist around the county. If he does a good job, he will get his position back at the university, so he gets into all...( read more) kinds of situations trying to keep the bumbling tourist safe and happy. There is also the evil wizard attempting to take over the University and the approaching red star. Very well done (admittedly, I am just familiar with the graphic novel version of this story) and it actually ended well, something that is hard to do in a sci-fi fantasy and rarely done in a made-for-TV film.

much weaker than the hogfather ... disappointing

i would like to see this with an other cast and better written screenplay - what works for a book must not work for a movie

also i think that a narrator, using some of the jockes in the book, would greatly improve this film

hope...( read more) they improve the quality for the next discworld movie ...
