John Wayne as a Mongolian warlord HAS to be one of the worst casting jobs in the history of Cinema. I love The Duke as much as anyone, but Genghis Khan he ain't.

Dear Lord God, what were they thinking...? Featuring easily the worst piece of casting in cinematic history, John Wayne stars as Genghis Khan (yes, you read that right) in the story of his life. It is quite funny for about 10 minutes, until you realise that it's quite mind-bugger...( read more)ing dull. One star for the curiosity value, but otherwise a total waste of celluloid. The fact that financial backer Howard Hughes paid $12 million to recall every print in existence so no-one could see it should tell you everything you need to know!

This has to be seen to be believed.John Wayne as Ghengas Khan!..Oh yes, absolutely true..not only does he look ridiculous but his dialogue is farcial..I bet during the filming he was tempted to slap on his six-shooters and don his cowboy hat..this may have made a better film.Sad t...( read more)hing was that most of the cast&crew died of radio-active poisoning in time as the movie was filmed very near an A-bomb site in the desert.

Horrible. Has as much to do w/Chingis Khan as "True Grit" does. But I love it so.

There's a million reasons to see John Wayne as Genghis Khan... I mean, the level of laughter one can achieve with this is off the charts!!!

Not really miscast--this is just an "Eastern" rather than a "Western".
  • July 29, 2008
Ha haa! Great to see Mongol leader Wayne utter words in his western drawl! "I would greet you, but my mouth is bereft of spit", is a classic line!
