this was an ok horror comedy dont know if it was meant to be as funny but i lol at a few bits one thing that did put me off was jennifer ellisons voice god i was getting on my tits haha
wait till its out on telly dont rush out to watch this
a good film. some good horror moments throughout. i didn't this was a horror film i found this a horror comdey. a story being forced into hiding after their kidnapping plan goes awry, two rival siblings, David and Peter, find themselves fighting for their sanity while they hole up in a secluded country cottage. Weighed down by a hostage who refuses to stay quiet, they quickly find themselves held captive by their own victim. But everyone's problems go from bad to worse when they come face-to-face with their psychotic axe-wielding neighbor: a demented farmer with a dark, nasty secret. starring Andy Serkis,Reece Shearsmith,Jennifer Ellison and Doug Bradley. this movie was directed by Paul Andrew Williams. not a original film. but great entertainment.
Wah. I thought some parts were funny, but most of it was a bit crap. I'm guessing it was supposed to be a comedy-horror, but it was sort of lacking in both.
They tired to be funny-they failed,but I'll give them credit.They tried to have a kewl villian-they failed,but I'll give them credit.They tried to make a good movie-they failled,but I'll give them credit.
British horror films have always had a unique sense of humour, throwing laughs and gore together to great effect.
Andy Serkis is no slouch either, playing the straight man brilliantly as a mobster who's hard as nails but a little fuzzy on the inside.
The laughs are pretty reliable, and as the situation goes from bad to worse a lot of those laughs come from the (severe) misfortune of the poor souls on screen, and the blend of splatter and slapstick is well tuned.
I thought this was quite funny - the dialogue was very clever in parts. The storyline didn't really make a whole lot of sense, but then I don't think it was supposed to. With a few gratuitous gore-bits thrown in for the gorehounds to feast upon, this film is one you should watch if you're in a silly mood.
What starts out as a dark comedy about a badly planned kidnapping takes a turn into horror satire territory halfway in. Though the monster/killer that eventually shows up is nothing more than a Hills Have Eyes leftover, the comedic bent of the movie and its absurd kill/gore scenes compensate, making this a flick that horror fans will like and laugh at. This movie doesn't take itself seriously, and that makes it. However, in a world where genre-aware horror is becoming more present, at least one gimmick falls short because it was just recently done in Severance. The refreshing style of blending slash attacks with physical humor doesn't fail to entertain, and the characters are pretty funny by themselves. It's also great to see that Andy Serkis can do much more than climb about bluescreen in a latex mapping suit doing weird voices. For those that like their black humour with a good splash of guts, this is a great pick.
good entertainment on show here, some good horror moments throughout, with a god sence of horror and comedy combined, british humour used well, all leads do good work, andy serkis and reece shearsmith are great as brothers, and jennifer ellison, with that scouse acent swearing away, a good watch, not a original film, but done well
Another amusing horredy out of the UK, clearly following in the footsteps of Severance. The first half of The Cottage is painfully slow, but it dryly turns the cliches of many suspense-thrillers on their heads with mildly entertaining results. The second half, however, makes the movie with its quasi-spoofing of slasher flicks. Bloody and hilarious, if you can make it that far without falling asleep.
A great horror comedy. The British dark humour works well with the over the top gore. Top marks for Andy Serikis as Dave. A must watch for horror fans.
Deffinetly an interesting watch. Comedy where you least expect it, then when you let your guard down... WHAM! Gore, violence and absolute mayhem take over in a killing spree that would make leather-face cringe. Laughs, deaths and bedlam; my final words are: "Chinese... Korean?"
Mediocre, and that's being generous.
Not funny, not scary, boring plot, boring 'villain', boring characters, uneven acting, awful over-obvious use of music (and obvious music too). Some of the actors are decent enough though and it's at least watchable. And to give it credit, the ending (not the after the credits sequence) is fantastic. It's just, not the most satisfying film in spite of it being so by the book and formularic. The film can't establish a tone either. It shifts between stupid farcicle humour and slapstick and attempts at a gritty, gritty horror film, but neither work.
Personal enjoyment: 5/10
Actual quality as a film: 4/10
great comedy horror - in the style of severance - this is what the Texas chainsaw massacre would be like if set in England - gory, funny & scary in places.
This movie was fuckin' weird. Starts out like some extemely stupid hostage-scenario comedy... So you wait about 40-45 minutes before the music and the whole mood of the film changes to Horror... Then FINALLY people die. I thought I had made a mistake in renting this originally. Best part of the movie is when that bitch gets killed, shut her up in a very fitting way! Made my fuckin' day! Three generous stars for the last half of the movie making things right.
