Well, I've been surprising by this French movie.. It's been a great detective movie... Jean Reno and Vincent Cassel did a pretty good job in here... And the idea of the story that making this two detective goes alone first then joined in the middle of the movie, just great.. Just like they got a different case but what happen next is the case is connected... And the murderer thing was great too, scary one I think... Good movie...
Despite the fact that this ain't entirely original, The Crimson Rivers is a rather brilliantly executed thriller that keeps you on the edge of your seat, thanks to Cassel's and Reno's great chemistry and good acting and Kassovitz's efficient way of filming.
It's the Silence of the Lambs meets Seven. A first-rate thriller. Spine-tingling, heart-racing and nerve-frying. Chilling and unforgettable. A breathtaking thrill-ride. Tension and suspense in unbearable doses. It will blow you away. You wont know what hit you right till the very end. Intense, stylish and outstanding. Vincent Cassel and Jean Reno are sensational. A teriffic and brilliantly original thriller. An unstoppable adreniline-rush.
Pierre Niemans: Commissaire Niemans. Sorry, I'm scared of dogs.
Jean Reno stars in a French thriller, taking place in a small village in the Alps. Reno stars as a famous police detective from Paris who is also afraid of dogs. This has nothing to do with the story, but it is pointed out so much, I felt I needed to reference it.
The movie involves a killer on the loose, killing people in grisly manners, involving eyes, hands, and other parts being lopped off.
While Reno handles this case, Vincent Cassel also stars as a cop who becomes involved in the case from another perspective. Cassel's character is actual a cool cat himself, much more so than some of the English roles he has been given thus far.
Eventually these two characters meet, and the story becomes a buddy flick/horror cop drama.
The movie owes a lot to Se7en and Silence of the Lambs, as the killer, methods, and overall tone and style of the film very much resemble those flicks. This also means that the movie looks great. We see a lot of good camera work showing off the great locations as well as the grisly work of the killer.
Some of the action scenes are a little over-the-top, and the ending is a little weak, but there are still exciting moments and enough coolness from the two leads to make this a good flick overall.
Max Kerkerian: Can I ask a question? What do you have against dogs? Pierre Niemans: [pause] It was a long time ago...
It's a creepy movie, with a nice mystery ahead. It has a nice script, the performances were quite good, specially by Reno and Cassel. It does leaves some things loose, but it still works out. A very nicely done thriller.
a french "mystery" thriller with hollywood sensibilities with contrivances a plenty and plot holes abound...if the two leads werent such commanding actors this would fall hard off the shit end of mediocrity
Solid central performace and delivers some grittiness and mutilated corpses as the the synopsis and cover suggested. A Mood driven piece. Despite the generic tagline, this a very good thriller, the english dubbing over the French works very well and its shot well making good use of the French Alps backdrop. There are plot contrivances though.
Reno and Cassel are a great duo, I hope 36 is as good a film in putting two great french actors together. it is just a shame that there was the predicatable anticlimax after all the suspension was built. If it weren't for the ending this film could have been 4 or 4.5 stars.
Fine French thriller of two French detectives investigate a series of grisly killings in a small alpine village. French actor Vincent Cassell seems a not bad martial artist in his action scenes.
La sangre de los atletas perfectos... y la de las personas mas intelligentes no se pueden mesclar.... exelente pelicula.... mismos recursos que utilizo hittler....:S.. la perfeccion es algo ke no podemos aceptar ahora....
Very good French thriller which is harmed by some weird choices. Probably wanting to be too action orientated. It adds a random kung-fu scene and some poor special effects. Overall though we get an intense mystery with striking performances. Could have been a French mixture of Se7en/Wickerman. Instead is simply enjoyable.
While this thriller was relatively well made, it suffers from its conventional apporach to a classic genre. It becomes somewhat predictable near the end. That being said, some beautiful photography and Jean Reno more than make up for being able to guess the villain a half hour before the heros do.
I went into this one completly blind and enjoyed the hell out of it. It was quite nice to see a thriller that didn't treat you like an idiot and left a few bits and pieces for you to pull together yourself.
