It was a good idea at the start sacrificing one of the living for one of the dead. But as the film drew on I just wanted it to end.

Very mysterious and confusing movie with a storyline that will keep you interested for more.
Perhaps not very original, but still very interesting throughout with some good acting and a pretty dark ending.

I actually was a bit afraid of sleeping after this, didn't last long though, but that's always something. She sacrificed herself for her daughter, and got back a monster..

I didn't know anything about this movie when I saw it, and it turned out to be quite scary. Just the kind of psychological horror I like.

Good movie. Looked so funny seeing people just walking off the cliff. The ending was cool too. It was surprising.

The plot was a little overdone, or it just seemed to me like that, thrilling and had some spooky moments but i,ve seen better ones...i compared it with movie The Skeleton Key...The Dark was worse...why i watched it because it had Maria Bello and Sean Bean in it...

An interesting plot and an amazing location. It actually gave me a lot of ideas to write about. Thumbs up on all the freaky sheep stuff.

An enjoyable and quite a scary thrill ride that is well made and with a terrific cast. I usually like these types of supernatural horror movies, and couldn't wait to see what Hollywood had rolled out this time. The beginning of the movie is eerie and enjoyable, and during the middle it seemed like it was building up to one big fantastic ending...but we are left with an ending so bad it lets the whole movie down. The film basically follows Adèlle (Bello) and Sarah (Stuckey) who are mother and daughter. They visit the father of the family, James (Bean, in a terrific performance as always), who lives in a seaside home in Wales. One day they venture down to the beach where Sarah goes missing and is presumed drowned. After the long search is called off, no-one can find any trace of Sarah. Then a girl who has been dead for about 50 years comes forward, saying she can help them get Sarah back from the land of the dead. From there, the film is based around a Celtic legend of the lands between life and death. This is unique and clever, but the overall product doesn't do much justice to the legend. A genuine solid thrill ride until the last ten minutes when it bogs and becomes excruciatingly complicated, then the ending is just plain terrible. Sean Bean's engaging performance definitely carries the movie and is one of the redeeming features, but not even he could save the ending despite doing the best he can. I was looking forward to seeing this movie because of Sean Bean being an addition to the cast, but on many levels I was so disappointed. I liked the concept and the first hour of the movie was great, but the ending was terrible, convoluted and could have been a lot better. Overall a strong thriller with a disappointing ending; a film only worth viewing once.

A really well chosen setting that is probably the best feature of the film. The narrative is slightly strange but that's what makes this film different from others in the same genre. The sound and editing were also impressive adding to the horror and shock of some scenes.

A somewhat predictable mixture of several other genre films, notably Silent Hill, The Ring and Pet Sematary, I was still fairly engrossed with the goings on, just don't expect anything new and exciting.

A decent little ghost story, you'll just feel as though you've been inthis house before.

    Rental.

Not a Bad Film by far, I have seen a lot worst, Ending a little strange, I wouldn't pay a large sum of Money to see this movie, Netflix or a Pawn Shop, Found mine for $2.00 and will addit to my collection.

Very little in this film doesn't mirror aspects of Silent Hill- even Sean Bean is involved. Although some ideas are interesting, the plot is sickly predictable, the acting of certain female lead is...well crap, and there are about 5 endings piled up on top of one another and the final twist makes no sense at all. Maybe worth a watch for Abigail Stone, who I'm convinced is pure evil...

Another semi-new very lame "horror." And just what do u guys see in this Maria Bello?... she cant act & she has NO business being a lead in any flick. Give it a pass.

I'll admit, I only saw this movie for Sean Bean, and so it's entirely possible that my opinion is biased, but---I thought it was not bad. Ripped off the Ring a little bit, but a pretty neat little ghost story in the end.

"What Dreams May Come" meets "Dark Water". This got good in the last half hour but it wasn't enough. Loved the backdrop but I confess I finished this only because of the trashily sexy Maria Bello. This movie deserves a remake in the hands of an art director. Better dialogue too.

Creepy psychological horror about a mother who loses her little girl to "the dark",some kinda limbo type place, when they visit the father who lives in a farmhouse by the sea. This is quite a gripping film with a few jumpy bits. Its also an interesting story with a decent,if pretty sad, ending.

Honestly, I didn't expect much from this film, but I was decently surprised. Sean Bean was the main draw, but it turned out to have some good horror elements. Funny it can sort of been seen as a tamer Silent Hill in a way.

The biggest problem with this film was that it was very dark. It wasn't overly scary or dark in subject matter considering it was set half in the world of Welsh mythology and ghosties but it was filmed very darkly so it was hard to make a lot of it out. A second problem is that it's more than a bit slow and turgid. Although a couple of attempts are made at scary scenes, they just don't amount to anything.

Very enjoyable supernatural thriller, personally can't see its a horror film as I didn't really find it that scary. Not many scares nor is there any gore or violent killings. But it does have that chilling creepy factor to it which is very well exhibited in this story.

Sean Bean and Maria Bello are excellent, backed up by a good supporting cast especially young Abigail Stone and Sophie Stuckley. The use of the Welsh setting provided some beautiful scenery shoots and a great pretense of the scare factor. Desolote lonely moors, Frightfully high cliffs above, jagged wave crashing rocks below, welsh folklore of Annwn (place of afterlife) and dead returning with 'The Dark' an evil presence. Crazed Sheep Farmers and Suicide pacts of deluded followers. Plays the rational fears like Losing a child, Heights, Drowning, Dark haunted Secluded houses, Sheep......(i have found a new admiration in the crazed naturer of a murderiuos pack of sheep after this film!). And it aslo cranks up the supernatural elements with the Folklore, haunting, the afterlife, Reserection, Pergutory/ stuck in Annwn and Death.

It can be quite slow and the twists and turns can make you a little confused but it has this mystical dark element that keeps you watching and waiting. Also I really liked the way the ending was shoot very other worldly, half lit, very dark shoots tinged with this grimy air to them great depiction of the place of the dead and afterlife.

The Dark was a great movie, I found it interesting not scary but certainly scary if it was to happen. The movie had great actors that did their parts well. The main story with the welsh mythology and so, was really interesting. I really loved the movie though didn't understand the ending or maybe your not suppose to?. You can take the movie afew different ways by the time it ends. Overall, I liked it.
