A very good thrilling movie; Joker he was clearly the star of the movie; Definitely a masterpiece!

The Dark Knight is more than just a comic book adaptation it is a brilliantly constructed thriller that has Heath Ledger as The Joker, one of the greatest acting i have ever seen, rest in peace Heath. A: Outstanding.

    Best superhero movie ever.
  • November 21, 2009
The ending of Batman Begins prepared us for a sequel, and this is it. This is unlike any Batman film that we've ver seen before. We get a great story, fantastic action and a peformance of The Joker that is even better than Jack Nicholsan's performance.

I did laugh everytime wh...( read more)en Christian Bale talked as Batman, very funny, but he was good as Bruce Wayne. Heath Ledger was the stand out performer. He was terrific as the Joker! He was definitley casted very well (R.I.P Heath Ledger). Aaron Eckheart was great as Harvery Dent/Two Face, and Gary Oldman's performance as Gorodn was outstanding. I've pretty much only been talking about the acting. As you can see everyone was good.

The action was so well done. Christopher Nolan is such a great director, and some of the scenes in this film are just so exciting and fun. I was disapointed that I didn't see this in IMAX because I heard it was great. The explosions are really well filmed and I thought it was terrific that they didn't use as many special effects as they did in the first one. Everything was done so well and it looked really realistic.

The script and characters were great. I loved the way Harvey Dent develops into Two Face, I thought it was well handled and lets not forget the character of the Joker. He was a key character and definitley one of the most effective villains in cinematic history.

I highly recommend this film. Not only is this my favourite superhero film, it's probably up there with some of the best films I've ever seen.

What else is there to say that has no been said about Nolan's over-the-top cinematic masterpiece The Dark Knight. A fantastic entertainment package. Good storyline, great cast and crisp production. Ill refrain from praising all the elements that make this movie great, it is prett...( read more)y much beyond any subjectivity of opinion. But I want to pen a few lines regarding the half a star that has been deduced from my almost 5-star rating. First of all, Aaron Eckhart was, in my opinion, miscast, both for this role which he does not fill at all. His character(s) stay lifeless and bland, and he made realize that I was watching a product instead of another world whenever he was on screen. Furthermore, I found that the screenwriters (Nolan & Nolan) tried a wee bit too hard to make the ambiguity of good & evil shine through the film, by introducing so many elements of blurred moralities and questions of right & wrong that I feeled smacked over the head with the message instead of subtly delivered. I know American people are said to be incapable of understanding movies without being spoonfed, and this movie shows how even Nolan thinks of that as being true, but we all know it is not and a bit more delicate and suave handing of the film's core philosphy would have done the film good.

Heath Ledger is, we all know it, what makes this movie something else, transforms it into something that is relevant instead of just an action movie. I am not one of those buzzbirds claiming that this role killed him, but it certainly did not make him saner than he was before, to put it that way.

    Highly recommended
    H.

I have quite a story with Nolan. Most of his films were released when I was a kid, but Batman Begins was released at the perfect age: 10. When I first saw I didn't understand it quite well so I didn't like it (to be honest at that age I liked Batman and Robin). But it was my favo...( read more)rite superhero and I had to buy it. When I had a second view at it I loved it instantly and it became my favorite movie after Star Wars. When The Prestige came out, I had enjoyed The Illusionist and I was looking forward to more magic movies. Another favorite movie. By then my addiction to movies had started and I defined as a mission in my life to see all other Nolan movies. I saw Following and liked it, but obviously the one I was searching for was Memento: After I finally found it, it became my new favorite movie. I think that almost all movies in this Top 10 have been at one time my favorite movie. You can predict my reaction when The Dark Knight came out.

Who would've thought, Jack Nickelsons portrayal, from the original, could be topped. I mean I've never been that captivated by an onscreen performance to that degree. I've never seen that level of eccentricity and charisma, energy, honesty. He brought it all to the screen. Heath...( read more) Ledger really gave it his all, maybe too much. Maybe it's partly to do with why he died. Anyway back to the movie. Perfect in every way. The music score is phenomenal. The story. The acting. Everything. Truly epic. I'ts almost like I wanna say the acting on Heaths part, is like..ahead of our time. I know that sounds crazy but..I've never seen acting that good.

A masterpiece? Quite possibly. If it was possible, this film surpassed the original, "Batman Begins", a film which IMHO ticked every box for an excellent and near perfect movie, but on Friday night, the bar was positively raised. Comic book blockbuster meets "Heat", Chris Nolan h...( read more)as now delivered a very different yet progressive take on the same genre while almost reinventing it, in a way not dissimilar from James Cameron and T2. Clearly not afraid to explore the world of Batman, this was definatly on of, if not the most thoughtful and intelligent Blockbuster to make its way out of Hollywood in years, though it does have to fight off competition from likes of Mission Impossible, Batman Begins, T2 & Heat. In short though, it doesn't really matter how you qualify it. This movie had a stellar cast, great music and wonderful direction from a director who has only had one dud in "Insomnia", and many would disagree with that. Role on Batman 3...

  • November 18, 2009
    Three words: BEST. MOVIE. EVER.

All the actors were magnificent, but it was Ledger's turn as the Joker that made the movie chilling and beautiful to watch.
  • November 17, 2009
Everything about it is top notch. The directing and plot was flawless, I could swear I was watching something like heat, but even better strung together. You have two major character arcs in this story (Batman's limits to bring justice and Harvey Dent's descent to evil) as well a...( read more)s over four major villians and it is still able to be handled with ease. Then you've got three of the greatest actors of their generation (Bale, Ledger and Eckhart) giving even more depth and emotion than was written in the script. Christian Bale not only plays the Bruce Wayne that Gotham sees him as, but he is also its greatest detective and justice breeder. Then there is also the "real" Bruce Wayne. A man of compassion, even though he is haunted daily by his past daily by the people he goes up against. Even though he wants to kill them, he knows that if he did he would be no better that someone like Ra's Al Ghul and his league of Assassins. Aaron Eckhart also does a great job of playing multiple roles because he is so believable as the well mannered District Attorney and also as the psychotic killer that is Two-Face. Then there is Heath Ledger who somewhat had the easier job of the three character because he gets to play crazy throughout. This movie excels in every genre it approaches. As a comic book movie it stays really true to the Long Halloween and Dark Victory storyline. As an action movie it shows more shit blow up than a lot of other action sequences than others and it's throughout the entire movie, not just the climax. As a drama it shows a number of clear character arcs and sees them through. Batman actually has to make a decision that neither spider-man nor Superman ever end up having to make, a life or an ideal. Bottom line, this is a must see and arguably one of the best movies ever made.

''You just couldn't let me go could you? This is what happens when an unstoppable force meets an immovable object. You truly are incorruptible aren't you? You won't kill
...( read more)me out of some misplaced sense of self-righteousness, and I won't kill you, because you're just too much fun. I think you and I are destined to do this forever.''

Batman and James Gordon join forces with Gotham's new District Attorney, Harvey Dent, to take on a psychotic bank robber known as The Joker, whilst other forces plot against them, and Joker's crimes grow more and more deadly.

Christian Bale: Bruce Wayne / Batman

    Heath Ledger: The Joker

When we think back to truly worthy sequels, sequels which surpass even their original predecessors, many of us would proclaim such masterpieces as Aliens, Godfather II, Empire Strikes Back, Terminator 2...So with the coming of 2008 yet another sequel will be honoured enough to take it's place among these glorified masterpieces.
Undoubtedly, English Director Christopher Nolan begins to resemble the mythical King Midas, in the sense that every film project he breathes life into results in a deep, puzzling masterpiece of depth and serenity. Memento, Insomnia, The Prestige have all mesmerized and set alight mindful debate among critics and fans alike, and for me been hailed as 5 star masterpieces which breach the synapses.
2005 sees the release of Batman Begins, under the helm is none other than English Director Nolan and Warner Bros. The batman franchise, after Joel Schumacher's Batman Forever and Batman & Robin had been taking it's last dying breaths after turning into a colourful farce of nipples and cartoony villainy.
Only a miracle could of repaired the damage done, and if any man can provide miracles Christopher Nolan surely can. Batman Begins not only gave new life to a dying franchise, it redefined comic book/Graphic Novel adaptations in terms of realism, acting, and adrenaline pumping cinematography. This was a whole new re-imagining for Bruce Wayne becoming the Batman, and quite frankly even more believable than Tim Burton's efforts in 1989.

So 2008 sees the The Dark Knight, from Warner Brothers and once again the directorial genius of Nolan.
David S. Goyer and Christopher Nolan collaborated on the story of this film. The script itself was written by Nolan and his brother Jonathan. funnily enough after watching The Dark Knight, Goyer stated "I can't believe my name is on a movie this good".
This time the hype, the anticipation, and the attention has increased a hundred fold since it's predecessor. New cast additions include Maggie Gyllenhaal, Aaron Eckhart and the late Heath Ledger, while old veterans return such as Gary Oldman, Morgan Freeman, Micheal Caine and the Dark Knight himself Christian Bale. Obviously the tragic death of Heath Ledger after the completion of the movie warranted alot more attention for viewers due to the complexity of seeing his last performance. However, The Dark Knight is testament to Ledger's legacy, his swan song, his immortal role among many chameleonic characters in his resume. His roles in Brokeback Mountain, Candy, showed his adult raw talent for tackling sensitive controversial material, while A Knight's Tale, The Patriot and 10 things I hate about you showed he could entertain and be charming. So with The Dark Knight we witness his best film to date, his guaranteed Academy Award grabbing carnation of the maniacal nemesis of batman, The Joker. Let it just be said Heath truly is immersed 100% into the confines of the character, he makes us believe and sometimes agree with his views on society and people.
Joker never seized to make me laugh in appreciation despite what could be considered sick antics, I considered genius. Who else could do a pen trick with someone's head? Dress as a nurse with a silencer in hand and his clownish face glistening? Hide in a body-bag to infiltrate a mob boss's joint? Who else could immortalize Batman's most famous nemesis Joker? Without a doubt Heath Ledger bar none.

''Sometimes, truth isn't good enough, sometimes people deserve more. Sometimes people deserve to have their faith rewarded.''

To prepare for his iconic role as The Joker, Heath Ledger hid away in a motel room for about six weeks. During this extended stay of seclusion, Ledger delved deep into the psychology of the character. He devoted himself to developing The Joker's every detail, namely the voice and that sadistic-sounding laugh. Ledger's interpretation of The Joker's appearance was primarily based upon, of the chaotic, disheveled look of punk rocker Sid Vicious combined with the psychotic mannerisms of Malcolm McDowell's character, Alex De Large, from A Clockwork Orange. Ultimately for his efforts, The Dark Knight was the first comic book movie to ever win an Oscar for an achievement in acting, specifically to Heath Ledger (posthumously) for Best Supporting Actor.
Heath Ledger posthumously won a total of 32 Best Supporting Actor awards for his work on this film, including the Oscar, Golden Globe, BAFTA, SAG and Critic's Choice award.

Christopher Nolan beautifully captures Gotham City (filmed on location at Chicago). Whereas Batman Begins was styled after the iconic piece from Ridley Scott's rainy, dirty Blade Runner, the sequel The Dark Knight mirrors the feel and look of Micheal Mann's Heat giving us a true homage to masters of cinema and film, and we see Nolan has been inspired by the best, rein-visioning his own unique directing and styling to give us a fresh and powerful Gotham City.
Indeed, a similar scene in Michael Mann's crime saga, Heat, inspired this film's introductory bank robbery sequence. As a matter of fact, William Fichtner, who had a notable appearance in this scene, was also in Heat.

''I am an agent of chaos. And you know the thing about chaos? It's fair...''

The Dark Knight runs at nearly 3 hours, yet never ceases to lose any momentum. It doesn't waste a scene or moment of it's run-time; every event is utilized and necessary to a meaningful complex plot. Nolan tells a story worth telling and like his other film projects, nothing is ever as it seems, he is in a way the new master of suspense, a shadow of Hitchcock proportions.
Action-sequences are mind blowingly frantic, old-school, eye-grabbing stunts and in their chaotic intensity we see that they serve purpose to the plot, yet even more interestingly, are not played for pure entertainment-value alone.
Audiences are meant to watch, petrified, simply hoping that the outcome will go the hero's way and another show stealing performance from it's villain. Attention is never lost because we are immersed in a breathtaking, almost completely-unpredictable story, that makes us think and more importantly gains our emotional liability. We come to care for the characters, because they are believable, developed, and personified.
Interestingly, this film and its predecessor have one-word themes which are driving forces in the stories and explanations for villains: Batman Begins centers around Fear(Scarecrow/ Ra's Al Ghul), while the focus of The Dark Knight is Chaos(The Joker/Two Face).

''Sometimes, truth isn't good enough, sometimes people deserve more. Sometimes people deserve to have their faith rewarded.''

Maggie Gyllenhaal results in being a more mature Rachel Dawes than Katie Holmes. Morgan Freeman again provides his authoritative presence to the role of Wayne-Enterprise CEO Lucius Fox, and under anyone else's portrayal, the part would be less than memorable. Legendary Gary Oldman underplays his world-wearied lawman with such honest finesse and plausibility, you never feel for a second any of it is artificial. The irreplaceable Michael Caine makes a gentle, reassuring, foster parent presence for Bruce Wayne yet again as faithful Alfred, and the story would surely diminish without his strong presence and interlacing moments of humourous quips and anecdotal advice for the masked hero.
Aaron Eckhart whom plays Harvey Dent, really excels in being ''The White Knight'' politician of Gotham City whom is likable, and charismatic. The attraction between Gyllenhaal and Eckhart is believable, whereas the love triangle which forms between the complexities of Harvey, Rachel and Bruce are greatly helped by amazing chemistry between them.
Dent's dual personality comes into effect very well, as we the audience scratch beyond that exterior, we see a dark side to Dent. A dark side the Joker inevitably wants to exploit for his own agendas.

Brilliant scores by James Newton Howard and Hans Zimmer. In fact the scores could be two new characters in the film in the sense of depth and emotion they stitch together with the powerful resonance in the scenes. The chase where Batman first uses his Bat-pod bike is nerve tinglingly delivered thanks to the effective use of musical genius and poignant sound. The movies climax and final scenes elevate The Dark Knight's soul into the heavens, creating a moving, emotional, turbulent, deep message of honour, sacrifice and themes of the greater good. Batman isn't the hero we deserve, he's whatever we need him to be...He's strong, he can take it...and as we hear deep words like this, the tones in the score give the words even more power. A power they deserve.

Overall The Dark Knight rightly received 8 Academy Award nominations, more than any other film based on a comic book, comic strip, or graphic novel. First film based on a comic book, comic strip, or graphic novel to win an Academy Award for acting (Best Supporting Actor).
The Dark Knight was everything I expected it to be and even more so in places, it's certainly the dark masterpiece I predicted, but I do get the feeling that it's been overly hyped for the wrong reasons. See it not just for Heath's performance which is defining and immortalized, but also see it because Dark Knight is the greatest comic book/graphic novel to movie ever. DC comics & Warner Bros. must be singing and praising Nolan a hundred fold.
Dark Knight really does have the last laugh. An astonishing achievement that really does succeed in redefining sequels and graphic novel comic book adaptations.

''Because he's the hero Gotham deserves, but not the one it needs right now. So we'll hunt him, because he can take it. Because he's not our hero. He's a silent guardian, a watchful protector. A dark knight.''

By far the best comic book movie ever made. Why you ask? This is the only comic book sequel that can stand on it's on two feet without it's predassesors existance. I never was a fan of Heath Ledger until what I saw him do with The Joker (My favorite comic book character of all...( read more) time). Which is obviously very sad due to his death, knowing that if he lived he would have done even more great things including reprise the role of The Joker in the next in the sure to be continuing franchise. I want to make it perfectly clear that I think Heath Ledger's performance was the best in the entire movie. However, I MUST give due to the other stellar performances by the fantasticially talented and legendary cast. Gary Oldman gives his A game as Gordon and I must say actually seems like a superhero himself in many scenes. Morgan Freeman and Micheal Caine give heartfelt performances that make you interested in their side of the story. Christian Bale...... OK one of the only two flaws I saw with the movie is that with all the great talent surrounding this movie, Christian Bale couledn't compete with the legends he was working with. Thus making Batman seem more like background than anything else. I will say he did a great job not as good as everybody else in the movie. Last but not least: Aaron Eckhart. The man behind Two Face. The best take on the character I've seen.

The superhero movie that forced us to look at it as more than a superhero movie, "The Dark Knight" stands in a class by itself.

The story, the action and the cinematography is all there. Christopher Nolan has given us arguably his best movie to date and possibly one that ranks a...( read more)s one of the all-time great movies.

Then there's the acting. Heath Ledger's re-imagining of the Joker not only surpasses Jack Nicholson's by leaps and bounds, it ranks as probably the most convincing and frightening performance since Anthony Hopkins as Hannibal Lector.

There will be the skeptics who complain about Christian Bale's Batman voice and the length of the film, but, honestly, imagine yourself a citizen of Gotham, where the most recognizable person in the entire city is Bruce Wayne. Don't you think he'd have to conceal his voice pretty damn well if he were secretly masquerading as a masked hero? And as far as the length goes, the film could not have ended until the citizens of Gotham unknowingly spoke out against the anarchistic Joker.

Put your minds at ease and savor this movie as one hell of a ride. Christopher Nolan continues to amaze.

    The Dark Knight (2008)

    Director: Christopher Nolan
    Country: United States of America
Genre: Action / Crime / Thriller
    Length: 152 minutes

    Photobucket

Ladies and gentlemen, The Dark Knight is not an ordinary film, but an extraordinary film, and I'm proud of saying that. The Dark Knight surpasses any possible human expectation and is almost unparalleled in almost every single aspect within films of its genre. I'm about to say why.

Christopher Nolan still applies his already identifiable darker direction for the Batman franchise first seen in Batman Begins (2005), which although it was somewhat a small disappointment and was stupidly called the best film of the year (XD LOL), set a darker tone for Batman as for the plot and characterization goes. This is what still makes The Dark Knight work and makes his films better than any Schumacher-directed Batman crap. "WTF, IS EDGAR COCHRAN ON CRACK? IS HE SAYING THAT THE DARK KNIGHT IS AN EXTRAORDINARY FILM, AND THAT NOLAN DIRECTED A BETTER FILM THAN BURTON DID IN 1989?" Yes, I am, and I never expected me saying that. And I'm not on crack. Christopher Nolan made a better film this year than Burton did in 1989 with his unique, great and original Batman classic.

The script is totally great, beautiful and well-structured. Both Christopher and Jonathan did a splendid job that was perfectly accurate for every single characterization, especially for The Joker, and highly appropriate for the perfect pace and length of the film. Heath Ledger (RIP) built a unique Joker, and an outstandingly crazy, humorous, funny, fun, sadistic, crazy and sarcastic character, which is contrary to my past expectations. Heath Ledger should be extremely proud of the last character he brought to life during his career, which I think it was the greatest. Although there will never be a better Joker than Jack Nicholson, since he was the greatest in bringing that character to the big screen, Heath Ledger adds another style to the character and I was totally shocked in a good way.

The action sequences are totally breathtaking and amazingly choreographed and edited. I'm one of those guys that say that tons of mindless action sequences most normally tend to deteriorate almost every aspect of the film such as direction, plot, script, character development, among others. The dose of action in The Dark Knight is just fine! I personally prefer the action sequences to have an absence of music so I can analyze aspects such as special effects, editing, cinematography, sound effects and sound editing without any distraction or annoyance. The Dark Knight allowed me all of that, and they are sweet! The action is perfectly done. The Dark Knight has also several menacing moments throughout that made me feel extreme tension and suspense all the time. This film made me feel the adrenaline running through my veins several times.

The cast is superb. Christian Bale is still cool, although he keeps making that exaggerated and somewhat annoying accent when he is acting like Batman. Who the hell can hate Michael Caine? He's as great as always. Maggie Gyllenhaal was a better choice than Katie Holmes for Rachel Dawes, since I like her more and is a better actress. Aaron Eckhart was a terrific choice for Harvey Dent (Two-Face). Gary Oldman was OK once again. Morgan Freeman is as good as always, and more hilarious this time. Heath Ledger was the best of them all.

The only facts that I didn't like are that the Two-face character is wasted very quickly (possibly), and that the appearance of The Scarecrow was rather unnecessary. Batman's voice is still annoying, and I hope that it is changed soon in the next Batman film.

The Dark Knight received 8 Oscar nominations, making it the superhero film with the biggest amount of Academy Awards in movie history as far as I am concerned, whereas Superman (1978) only received 3. The nominations were Best Achievement in Sound Editing, Best Performance by an Actor in a Supporting Role, Best Achievement in Art Direction, Best Achievement in Cinematography, Best Achievement in Editing, Best Achievement in Makeup, Best Achievement in Sound and for Best Achievement in Visual Effects. Although it only won the first two, I really think this film also deserved the last two, and also deserved nominations for Best Achievement in Directing and Best Motion Picture of the Year, and should have won those as well. However, I'm pretty happy with the different and mature criteria that The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences finally had choosing Slumdog Millionaire and should have starting to have decades ago.

All in all, The Dark Knight is not only the second best film Christopher Nolan has made so far, but the best Batman film I have ever seen and the best superhero movie I've ever laid my eyes on. The quality of the film is unbelievable, and talking about its greatness will never make enough justice for it. I was totally blown away, and so will you. A dark masterpiece.

    90/100

It becomes an agenda to Batman to stop the mysterious Joker at all costs, knowing that both of them are in an opposite line. One has no method at all and seeks to see the world plunge into the fire he has yet to light. One represents the symbol of hope and uses his own shadow to bring the peace and order he has yet to accomplish doing.

    Review:
I was very excited to see The Dark Knight because i enjoyed Batman Begins and it was great to see my favorite superhero back to the big screen in a huge way.I also was curious about Heath Ledger s perfomance as The Joker right after his shocking death. After i walked to the cinema,i wasn t excepting The Dark Knight to a be an oustanding masterpiece. This movie was definetly 2008 s best movie and puts other comic book movies to the shame because not only sets a new standard in the comic book genre but is such a phenomenal movie .This is the Batman i wanted to see and deserves to be on the list of the greatest movies of all time.

Christian Bale delivers once again a excellent perfomance as Batman/Bruce Wayne. His perfomance was fantastic, showing a more darker and tortured Batman while he tries to end crime in Gotham City and the same time his presence atracts a lot of freaks like the Joker.Bale is by far the best actor playing Batman since Michael Keaton and he is simply phenomenal.Heath Ledger (Rest in Peace)was absolutely amazing and phenomenal as The Joker.Ledger delivers one of the greatest and the most legendary perfomances of all time.He shows a Joker like we have never seen before:a dangerous ,maniacal and phsycotic criminal who doesn´t care about the money and also takes Batman to the limit. No disrepect for Jack Nicholson but Ledger gives here his finest perfomance ever and he totally deserved the Oscar for Best Supporting Actor. And of course the rest of the cast were amazing including Aaron Eckhart as Harvey Dent aka Two Face and the lovely Maggie Gyllenhall as Rachel Dawes. She was way better than Katie Holmes.

Christopher Nolan is an amazing director. He has not done a bad movie yet and thank god for that.Nolan made a film much darker than the previous one and the script is amazing and of course maintains the spirit of the comic books.

The Dark Knight is one of the best movies i ever seen in my life and i m so proud of this movie just i m proud of Batman Begins and honeslty is very superior to Tim Burton s version. The Dark Knight proves that Batman is truly back and better than never.Thank Nolan and Bale and RIP Heath Ledger.
