Jacky Cheung and Tony Leung star as aspiring triads Fred and Keith, whose luck is so bad that all of their previous employers died within days of hiring them. The gangs want nothing to do with "the Red and White Jinxes" anymore, so Fred and Keith decide to become pimps, importing young Jane (Anita Yuen in her film debut) from Singapore to be their first employee. Unfortunately, no one told Jane about the nature of her intended work, and neither Fred nor Keith can muster enough force to make her comply. The boys' fortunes appear to take an upward turn when the most ferocious triad in Hong Kong, Kwan (Kenneth Tong), hires them in the mistaken belief that their overwhelming bad luck can be used to his benefit. Their ride through the criminal high-life doesn't last long, however, as Jane -- with whom they have both fallen in love -- abruptly deserts them, and the police set up a trap by convincing Kwan that they are about to betray him in court. The plucky but hopelessly star-crossed duo's attempts to extricate themselves from one dire situation after another make for entertaining viewing, and Cheung and Leung are both outstanding. Eric Tsang heads a familiar supporting cast including Jamie Luk and Glen Chin. ~ Robert Firsching, Rovi
