long movie with slow pace, but magnificent actor work makes it interesting. the start felt too slow for me, but russian roulette scenes were so well made they hurt to watch.

This is one of the most intensely emotional films I have ever seen. The impeccably structured script, directed to its full potential by Cimino, brings us a great deal of character depth and unique plot development. Robert De Niro and Christopher Walken deliver two of the most ast...( read more)ounding performances in film history, and the entire supporting cast is superb as well.

Very good, but the pre-war part of it was unnecessarily slow and overlong.

I love this site, but honestly, thanks Flixster! It took me three weeks to come up with something to say about this film after it completely shattered me, and in merging the two versions of this film that you had listed, though more efficient, you tanked the only articulate comme...( read more)nt I have ever managed to make on it, written or spoken... so it goes. In the case of a film this good, you can let the silence speak. It might be the Best "Best Picture" ever, and though everyone should see it once, I congratulate anyone brave enough to watch it again. An astounding film.

One of the most mind-blowing movies of all time. De Niro and Christopher Walken were magnificent together. It's a shame they haven't done more movies together because their acting talent is unparalleled. Check out the Russian Roulette scene. Although the scene setting is a little over long, this is still a remarkably powerful war film that studies the impact of Vietnam on a group of smalltown friends at a very personal level. Uniformly excellent performances, especially by the haunted Christopher Walken and an unforg...( read more)ettable climax.

saw this years back, watched it with my dad as a teen... was very powerful, i think this one is on my list for "watch now" along with several other gems that have re-surfaced, including Apocolypse Now, We Were Soldiers and, oddly enough?, Judgment at Nuremberg.

Beyond intense. The POW camp scene is so hard to watch.
  • April 3, 2008
Easily the greatest Vietnam film (close second: Coppola's "Now"). Whereas now focuses on the actual war, "Hunter" focuses on how it affected the working man.
