The scariest part of this for me was not the creatures in the cave, it was them crawling through those cave passages. I felt clastrophobic just watching a couple of those scenes! :)
What a great horror movie. Arguably the best to come in the decade. Acting is surprisingly superb, the cave scenes are perfectly executed. I was scared shitless after watching this lol.
"The Descent" is one of the most atmospheric, downright frightening, and completely engaging horror movies to have recently come out. It entices you from the beginning, spending the first half building up suspense and the later half bombarding the audience with such dire violence you hope that at least one of the lovely female protagonists makes it out alive.
Call me kooky..but this was one of the better horror films to come out lately. The sheer claustrophobic, errieness of the movie really drove the suspense for me..It had mnay jump out of her yourrecliner parts that were very unsuspecting. The story IMO was well done...the movie moved along at a fairly good pace..some slow build up...but once they got caught in the cave-in..the movie picked up a HUGE head of steam right to the very end! Some sub-plots to the movie as well made it enjoyable..The blood and gore was there and then some...the suspense was dead on...and the acting was good for a pasal of newcomers...Overall a great horror flick..much better then The Cave...2 thumbs up...Highly Recommend for horror fans that want something different!!!!!
The twist to this movie was that we were not sure if the monsters were real or a psyco-fabrication. Definitely a tense thriller/horror with a surprise ending.
Ok Monster movie with Feminist undertones. SPX could have been better. Character development could have been better. Good filming though. And kind of a stupid ending.
What's refreshing about this movie is its ambiguity (if you've seen the UK ending). It can either be taken as a straight-forward monster flick or a character study of a woman pushed over the edge into insanity. Are the monsters real or were they all in her head, making her the killer? I guess we'll never really know. And that's true horror.
The movies was good but lacked of originality. I did not agreed with the ending and what happened but it was still fun to see. In a remote mountain range, six girlfriends meet for their yearly adventure, a caving trip into the arteries of the earth. The group makes their way through the remote cave system, enjoying the hazardous but beautiful surroundings. Then, deep inside the cave, disaster strikes when their route back to the surface is blocked by a rock fall. When they learn that Juno, always pushing herself that little bit further, has brought them to an unexplored cave, and that no one is coming to rescue them, the group starts to splinter. Left with no other option, they push on through the cave, praying for another exit. The women battle through this harsh underground world, pitting their strength and determination against each new challenge. Unbeknownst to them, there is something else lurking under the earth, a race of monstrous creatures hidden from the light, evolved to live perfectly in the dark. As the friends realize they have become prey, they are forced to unleash their most primal instincts to face the creatures. As old wounds break open and loyalties disintegrate, the women realize the horrible truth-they have most to fear from one another.
my god.
This movie is fuckin creepy.
I dont normaly scream when i watch scary movies, but this one..
WOW. My friend just looked at me, like i was crazy. She thoght it was creepy too.
This was supposed to be another cheesy horror flick, but I was actually surprised at how good it was. Very well done. You definatly want to watch the alternative endings.
ah, female bonding. this is my idea of the uber chic-flick. some sentimental and some suspenseful moments. dark, viscuous and vicious just like a horror film should be. filled with feminine sensibility. some scenes are poetic.
If one observation must be acknowledged about this movie it is that the filmmaker has strived to give every type of horror fan something that will satisfy them. What at first looks to be just an action-filled creature extravaganza along the lines of 'Alien' and 'Resident Evil' becomes a different kind of film altogether as the story moves along. Sure, there is gore aplenty if that is your bag, but this is a more ambitious movie than that. Instead of the kind of tidy ending we might expect, the writer-director, Neil Marshall, offers a final psychological wrinkle that packs a wallop. If you watch this movie with friends, be prepared for a discussion about the ending to occur afterward. The creatures appear fearsome enough, even if they are not all that original-looking. My biggest complaint with the script is that not all of the characters are fleshed out clearly (no pun intended) before they enter the cave. Moving around in the shadows, it sometimes is difficult to know which character the camera is following exactly. Finally, however, this is a movie made by a promising young director who understands how to sustain suspense, and how to include homages to earlier films without also becoming overwhelmed by the burden in telling the story using his own approach.
Soooo scary! I nearly broke my date's hand when I saw this at the theater I was holding it so tight (I don't think my whimpering helped add to whatever manly image I was trying to convey, either). Scary monsters in a well-made movie are bad enough, but throw it into the tight confines of an unexplored cave and forget it, dude, I'm terrified. Even before we're introduced to the creatures (and it's one of the scariest intros ever, incidentally), just the scenes of women wriggling through and almost getting stuck in tight, vise-like tunnels are enough for a horror movie of their own. I have to admit, I didn't buy the actions of one of the characters near the end, a bit too pre-feminist to be believable here, but it definitely didn't detract from the overall horror. As much as one can love a movie that reduces you to a screaming five-year-old, I sure loved this one.
Good British horror about a bunch of female friends going on a trip down an unknown cave in Scotland.Things start off ok until the girls realise that they're not the only ones down in the caves. This has some jump-out-of-your-seat moments and it has alot of tension as self-appointed leader Juno not only went to far when looking for the next big high, she also has a secret concerning one of the friends that could split up the entire group. This film has some very good performances and a very claustrophobic feel throughout.
Probably one of the most frightning movies I've seen for quite awhile. Even with the sound down I still jumped when one of the creatures would pop up. The only thing I didn't really like was the ending because it wasn't too realistic.
Crazy.... I remember watching this again in my apartment cuz Chris said its aewsome to watch these chicks be so earthy and go trekking and blah blah. Everyone fell asleep but me, cuz i just loved it again. Also, chris... sitting straight up with his mouth wide open snoring and trying to still grab food at the same time, that was also a Riot
