Solo, a once successful novelist, is now a dismal failure. Insecure, unable to write, he has squandered his modest fortune on drugs, women and expensive therapy. Not used to caring for anyone but himself, Solo's new pet becomes an instant thorn in his side and he sets out to rid himself of the thing, but in the process finds a whole new circle of friends and a new lover or two.

    Who would have thought that one little dog could cause such a commotion?
    The Dog Problem is the latest movie that was directed by James Caan's son Scott. (Varisity Blues).
    Scott does a brilliant job with this film. It is biting and funny. The story is also original. Thank Jeebu...( read more)s, since most Hollywood comes out with is boring, watery remakes, or it has been done five thousand times!
    The cast of this movie was great. Scott was very funny. It was fantastic to see Don Cheadle as the therapist. He is an extraordinary actor, and a joy to watch on screen. I also love Giovanni Ribisi. He stole my heart in The Other Sister, and was equally as great in this.
    If you are looking for an entertaining, fun movie you should definitely check out The Dog Problem.

    What a suprise! Scott Caan builded up his second feature on terrific cast and tight, funny dialogue making us feel as if a couple of friends who work in a movie business got together to record several scenes in which they do what they like to do best, free as birds. The result? F...( read more)ast-paced, perfect entertainment which doesn't pose to be anything more than it is.

    By reading the plot this movie seems as though it might aim to be a comedy, and though this film might have those moments when you laugh or smile, it really isn't a comedy movie. So that's the first thing - if you end up watching this have an open mind and don't expect a comedy b...( read more)ecause you won't get one.

    The movie basically is about this author, Solo, who decides to get a dog that might help him become more comfortable and help him to write easier. But it turns out that everyone wants this dog, and there are people willing to pay good money for him but Solo realises he needs this dog and that he is beginning to like him a lot more. So the plot is basically that everyone wants his dog. Not too bad actually, and he falls in love with a girl he met at the dog park just to top things off.

    If it took more of a funny side to the story it might have been more successful, but this was still just as watchable and entertaining. Giovanni Ribisi was brilliant. He is a star and still not well known by many people, he did a fantastic job as the lead role. And director Scott Caan also stared in this movie, and it worked. He was himself I guess and it went with the movie perfectly.

    It's not exactly the best movie in the world as you can see by my rating, but still worth watching. Check it out sometime if you are a fan of any of the actors, but as I said, this was maybe more of a drama than comedy.

    This movie is true grit, real life problems that anyone could have. Get rich writing a book, live the good life, lose everything, spend $100,000 in therapy, borrow money from the wrong people, buy a little dog cuz your shrink thinks you need something to love, dog gets bitten by ...( read more)a pit bull at dog park, meet girl who owns dog, she pays for vet cuz you don't have the money and it was her dog that bit yours, girl turns out to be a stripper, everyone tries to steal dog, you give dog to stripper cuz she borrows pit bull and she really wants something to love but doesnt wanna get hurt again, move to Needles New Mexico to start writing again, stripper drops dog off on your welcome mat and drives off. See what I mean.

    This movie deserves a special spot for its ending when Giovanni Ribisi tells Don Cheadle why he's doing it. It's not important WHAT you do, it's important WHY you do it. A good lesson in life.

    Cute movie that revolves around a cute dog. Great cast and has a young Caan in the movie and directors chair. If you have a dog watch this movie.

    although the title is naming the main actor as the dog, it bassically is the writer and his fucked-up life.. dog is just the link.. but i liked the movie

    Giovanni Ribisi is spectacular as always. This little film is very touching and simple. I found it refreshing and very enjoyable. It is a great lazy afternoon movie.
