I wasn?t convinced I was going to like it as I wasn?t a great fan of the book but this is a brilliant adaptation from Neil Jordan, who really captures the essence of the characters!

Terribly bland and brash. The film lacks elegant subtlety so just about every theme is repeated out loud and then again in Fiennes' narration which is simply laughable. Why Jordan continues to cast Stephen Rea is anyones guess. He is either a dull mess, like he is here, or an ove...( read more)r the top laughing stock. The narrative manages to strip the film of any suspense or surprises and the religious aspects come across as desperate. Hart and Isaacs give two brilliant turns as you would expect but they are never fully developed upon. A melodramatic, emotionless mess. I'll give it points for the score.

Disappointin one from Neil Jordan - good cast, decent dialogue but horrible screenplay and annoying music. Even Julianne Moore's tits were not worth it.

This film gave me far more than I was expecting. A spectacular Ralph Fiennes (did I expect less) in a role most typical for him. I'd love to know if it is his own bum we get to see both in this and in many other of his films or if he has a stunt man to do the job.

All in all a great watch.

Lushly romantic, passionate war-time drama centered on a philosophical conflict between secular love and religious conversion. Ralph Fiennes limns the depths of jealousy as the brooding, thwarted lover eclipsed by Julianne Moore's alternately restrained, carnal, and ethereal perf...( read more)ormance. Period detail and handsome photography.

Two very gifted stars brought Graham Greene's novel to life. Also masterfully constructed by writer-director Neil Jordan. Ralph Fiennes has a face made to make period pictures, he plays a brooding novelist who loves Moore 's character with an obsessive passion and Moore was perfe...( read more)ct, gave a heartfelt performance of a woman trapped in a loveless marriage. The film is set in London in the early 1940s, wonderful cinematography. A truly sad, beautiful and passionate story not to be missed.

I think I pretty much love any movie whereas Ralph Fiennes plays a tortured lover. It must be the British accent that does it for me, because I can't think of one American actor who would do a good job and not look like he was ACTING. (Think Brad Pitt in Interview with the Vampir...( read more)e.) Not the best movie in the world, but it is giving me what a want--a weepy romance flick with loads of sex. (Julianne Moore has given less stiff performances, though. No pun intended.)
