While it could have been shorter, this was more enjoyable than one might think. Andy Serkis plays a beliavable villian, and JLM is actually a good lead actor. Why the guy doesn't get more main roles instead of Mark Whalberg and his clones is beyond me.

Better than you might expect from the cheesey box art.

Well it's British so that is a plus point to begin with, not enough films of our ilk about. It was well-acted enough for the style of film and there were some truly tense moments.

Mediocre prison drama, enjoyable to watch once. Why was Dennis such a wuss?
  • July 17, 2008
Not fantastic by any means, or even particularly believable but it was an okay way to waste a couple of hours...

Very nearly a 3 star film...

Pete Hammond, Boxoffice Magazine

A customarily fine performance by Brian Cox and a well-oiled supporting cast are not enough to lift this brutal and listless prison melodrama out of the ranks of '40s B movie. full review

Nick Schager, Slant Magazine

Neither more nor less than a solid prison-break thriller. full review
