Where to start with this one?
First off there is Alba, easily one of the dullest actress' of her generation. Its not that she is bad, its just that she isnt good. She merely delivers her lines and looks vacant (even when shes no longer blind).
Story wise it follows the original relatively closely, however the direction is a little weak and the scares seem a little lack lustre. Also its missing the best ghost from the original aswell.

Firstly, why 'The Eye' is titled as such is a mystery to me, because it actually concerns a pair of eyes. Perhaps it sounds better? Secondly, 'The Eye' is based on such a ridiculous, flimsy premise that the most vital requirement would be a convincing script to persuade the audience to suspend disbelief and empathise with the main character, Sidney Wells. Consider, therefore, lines such as "Something's happening to me", "You have to believe me" and "You're not real!". The film employs cliche after cliche, never wondering if the audience are bored of such unrealistic conversation or if there is actually anything better to say. Jessica Alba is wooden in the lead role, and gaining empathy from an audience about blindness was better achieved in biopic 'Ray', and even there it was only a secondary sub-plot. The ghosts look tacky and cheap, and the film tries to achieve the levels of intensity of 'The Sixth Sense' but the shoddy script prevent any form of emotional engagement. Dr.Paul Faulkner, Sydney's post-op counsellor, is perhaps the most insensitive and unqualified professional ever to grace the cinema screen, he too blaring things like "It's all in your head" etc etc. The director maintains an eerie atmosphere through the dark setting, but despite a couple of jolting shocks the film just isn't scary - I was laughing with ridicule more than jumping in fright or terror. The big-bang finale, in true 'Premonition' style (see how many films 'The Eye' has adapted itself from??) is simply there for the sake of a big-bang finale. In fact, every decision, every action is convoluted from start to finish in this under-performing mess of a picture. Within half an hour you see where this film is going, and give it another ten minutes and you'll want to be watching just about anything else.

Decent as far as newer horror films go, but not the best thing I've ever seen. A lot of the film was copied scene by scene from the original, but it just didn't work as well. The ending was changed, and wasn't quite as good. Probably would have liked it more if I hadn't seen the original.
