The Fall Guy

I found the film to be exhaustingly loud and not terribly inspired.

Someone needed to supply a heftier story. A script that fleshed out the time in between all the mayhem.

It's absolutely popcorn fun.

The thing that drove me craziest was how Leitch refused to let the story breathe. It is as if he can’t help but call attention to every beat, every gag, and every emotional button that’s being pushed.

It all turns into empty noise; spectacles strung together by a dizzy, slapdash screenplay that feels as though it has sustained a few too many bumps to the head.

As The Fall Guy tumbles, rolls, blasts, bursts and fights towards its grand finale, the momentum never lets up. Gosling and Blunt never lift their feet from the pedal. The ... runaway blockbuster never feels out of control or, worse, out of steam.

It's heavy on action and light on story, but it’s got enough oomph to spotlight the unsung heroes of action cinema and benefited from the perfect pairing of Blunt and Gosling.

Stunts have gone underappreciated for a long time, and The Fall Guy gives stuntmen a monster-truck-sized tribute that crashes and smashes its way into our hearts before lighting it on fire and doing it all over again.
