Fun and visually interesting, Fantastic Mr. Fox and its familiar cast carry this children's story up from the ground to brighten a day.

One of my top 10 of 2009.
  • January 4, 2010
I found this extremely sophisticated for a children's movie. It's actually quite talky and erudite, great for adults, but probably going well over kids' heads. George Clooney was just right as the crafty but soft-hearted Mr. Fox.

This film was pretty good. Had some good humour in it.
  • January 4, 2010
It should have been obvious that Wes Anderson's cheeky, honest, family oriented dramedy style would gel perfectly with Roald Dahl's children's books. Still liked Zissou better, but Anderson's best since.

I was really surprized with this movie. I am tempted to give it a higher rating, but we will see how it holds up. Every frame is interesting, and really works better as an adult film. It is a Wes Anderson film that uses anamation to increase the style. If you like the Royal T...( read more)anenbums try this.

If this film had come out when I was a little kid, I probably would have watched it a few dozen times by now. Anderson's style melds very well with Dahl's story and characters. I really liked the "old school" stop-motion in this film (although the stuff Selick does is amazing...( read more)). You can really feel the hand-made quality of it. Another thing I enjoyed was it didn't feel so sanitized for kids the way many children's films have become. Character's smoke (gasp!), steal, and (sort of) curse, so it's more of a throwback to Bugs Bunny type sensibilities than the PC stuff that comes out today. Clooney, Schwartzman, and Gambon are perfectly cast. And Anderson and Noah Baumbach did a great job with the script. But mainly, it was just plain fun to watch and had a lot of laughs...

I haven't liked a Wes Anderson film this much since Rushmore. The animation is different and fun. The characters are great. It does portray the same themes you usually get with a Wes Anderson film, but being geared towards a younger audience gives the movie a different feel from ...( read more)his previous few films. I would like to read the Roald Dahl book to see how different the story is.

Very quirky and fun, and nicely based on the book although there are some looser parts. The stop-motion is really great and just adds to the charm of the movie. An all-star cast does te voice acting beautifully, and you can see a lot of resemblances between this and The Royal Ten...( read more)enbaums. If you liked that, you'll like this and vice versa. This is such an exceptional piece of work, I left the theater amazed at how talented Wes Anderson is. While I like much of his other movies, I was completely blown away by this. The imagination and creativity in this film is truly impressive. I enjoyed every moment of this, and s...( read more)o will you.

The plot centers around Mr. Fox (voice by George Clooney) who decides to start stealing chickens and things from his neighbor Walter Baggis, the owner of a chicken and agricultural empire. The battle that ensues between Mr. Fox's gang, and Baggis' gang, escalates into an all out war. That is the basic theme of the plot. What counts in this movie is the execution, the humor and sheer wittiness Anderson adds to the stop motion figures. They are rendered in a way I have never seen before. Funny, unusual, cleaver, intelligent, I was delighted by every scene at the inventiveness with which it was handled. This movie is so smart and bursting with originality, you'll walk away knowing you completely got your money's worth. I absolutely recommend this film for anyone who appreciates talent, and loves movies.

Really great - the funky story & animation are perfect for Wes Anderson's quirkiness. Fantastic design of the human characters.

This movie was fantastic! The casting was well done. In the audience, I noticed the adults were laughing more than the kids. Quirky and clever, Fantastic Mr. Fox is worth seeing.

Wes Anderson continues to work with troublesome family dynamics and quirky characters, no matter that they're foxes, opossums, and badgers. Fantastic indeed.

fantastic mr. fox Pictures, Images and Photos

When Mr. Fox and his wife, Felicity, are stealing chickens ...( read more)from a farm they get captured. They don't stay that way for long since Foxes are excellent diggers which helps them out of this situation. It does present, however, the opportunity to inject that Felicity is pregnant. Change has to be made now for Mr. Fox since he's going to be a father. In short, he needs to stop stealing chickens.

Two years pass, 12 in fox years, a son was born. His name is Ash and he's a bit different. Unless you call grouchy and competitive as being different then okay.

Mr. Fox has become restless. He's not getting any younger and wants to live above ground. Not in a hole. So he sets his sights on a tree. His lawyer, The Badger, warns Mr. Fox that if he is to move into one particular type of tree it might become dangerous since it's close to three facilities run by three very ugly farmers: Boggis, Bunce & Bean.

Mr. Fox doesn't care. So he moves his family into the tree. A nephew, on Felicity's side of the family, comes to stay with them since his father is ill. His name is Kristofferson and he knows karate. Mr. Fox selfishly favors Kristofferson over his own son Ash which makes him angry.

The competitive Ash is envious of his nephew and the banter between them is one of the most fun in the film. Ash, however, wins the respect of his father through a heroic act. I'm sorry, it was an athletic act. Maybe if those words combined: Ath-roic act. Yeah. That's better.

Mr. Fox gets back to stealing chickens and puts his family at risk when Boggis, Bunce & Bean spend much of the film trying to kill them. There's also a Rat who I'm sure would be much scarier in person then on the screen who also tries to kill them or at least try to antagonize them I think.

The end is one of bittersweet and the stop motion is incredible. It isn't a Wallace and Gromit production and Tim Burton didn't play a part in it. The only beef I do have with the film is that it's kind of bland. I'm not a big Wes Anderson fan because I don't really like is anal retentive direction. His storytelling is also self aware which throws me off. Like for example when the Possum asks Mr. Fox why he whistles and he replies 'It's my trademark'.

    Duh!

This film has it's moments and if you're a fan of stop motion films or Roald Dahl or even Wes Anderson then see this film!

It was entertaining. Quicker paced than Royal Tenenbaums and Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou, but it gave me the same comedic vibe.

It's a great light movie for adults, since they'll most likely keep up with the wit and dialogue.

Wes Anderson art taken to the max, the film is a visual treat, a great kids film, and will make you keep your fingers crossed that more directors invest in classic stop-motion animation. Great achievement

Lemme start off by praising the effort put into children's flicks these days from studios who don't bear the name Pixar. Best thing is retro-fitting their visuals seemingly ancient and defunct by today's standards where CGI was thought to be the wave of the future. Literally, it'...( read more)s like they were saying "See our movie! It's CGI, just like Pixar's movies!!" Yet they always neglect the important ingredient: story. A lot of those films just undermine the kids they're marketed towards, subconsciously forcing parents/guardians to underestimate their own kids.

So what makes Fantastic Mr. Fox so cussing fantastic aside from the crude stop-motion animation it's got going? And from the looks of it, you know actual effort was put into adapting the Roald Dahl story (which I haven't read). I enjoyed the story of a fox who manages to cuss things up for his family and circle of woodland creatures. And as seemingly "norm" it may be for man and animals to remain separate, they seem to inhabit the same world and adopt the same customs... 'cept time, which, for the film's sake, is measured by fox standards. Even thinking like a fox puts Mr. Fox in an existentialist moment, pondering deep questions that plague developing minds, but then shrugs it off and continues stealing poultry behind his wife's back.

With a story like this, you wonder where it goes. Like Ratatouille from two years back, Fantastic Mr. Fox has layers upon layers, yet it's just simple storytelling about a family getting into trouble because the father is crazy like a fox. Even as anthropomorphic as the creatures are, they still remain connected to their established customs. Mr. Fox may wear a neck-tie, but he's still out stealing chickens from the mean ol' farmers nearby. The story is not just some throwaway, simple, mundane plot with token characters who feel the need to spew something pop cultural, it continues to develop even as everyone is digging themselves into a hole. Remember in a trailer when Mr. Fox is rounding up a team and asking what skills they possess, then comes to Badger who reveals he's a demolitions expert... it makes you wonder what these woodland creatures do in their spare time, or what their background is. I love how it stirs up this kind of child-like wonder, making the film all the more fun. Just about each character is developed well enough to where we care about 'em, and the story just keeps rolling out the surprises. Oh, and Wes Anderson's deadpan humor and deliveries remain intact... it's also a wonder how he's able to incorporate his style in a children's flick. And the voice actors fit their roles very well, in particular Jason Schwartzman as the lil' fox Ash. He pulls off that little guy role so well.

But anywho, Fantastic Mr. Fox has it all: humor (loads of it), good story-telling, adorable characters, action, suspense, heart, imagination... it's a shame this film was seemingly overlooked this past month. It's not boring, and it doesn't cater solely to adults. Don't judge it too harshly just 'cause it doesn't look as dumb, or "safe," as other non-Pixar animated flicks. And especially don't write it off just 'cause Wes Anderson directed the film. Sure, his quirky, deadpan dialogue probably turned some of you off, but just know that he thinks highly of Roald Dahl. You'll be hooked when ya see Mr. and Mrs. Fox ready to grab some chickens, sneaking past traps, all while the Beach Boys is blaring full blast. Great time at the movies, full of fun and nostalgia, definately a must-own when it comes to DVD.

Fantastic Mr. Fox is a film that is put together well and accomplishes what it needs to...entertain in a unique and creative way. Wes Anderson has a style all of his own and it continues to show. The storyline itself is a fairly basic. What Anderson does so well is create uniq...( read more)ue characters. He adds a dimension and humor to them that I feel a lot of people don't understand. The stop animation was well done. The music in this, as in many of Anderson's films, was well selected. Wes Anderson is a creative film maker that probably doesn't get the credit he deserves. I think this film might fall into that category as well.
