Not my first choice, but... WAY better than I thought it would be. Just don't expect any eye candy, ladies - the only mildly good looking one is... well, I won't spoil things. There's a lot of rump and bawdiness, which I'm not keen on, but there's also the Brit wit that I love, so I got much more out of this than I ever thought I would. It's stupid funny, and smart funny, and no one can dance. And there's plenty of embarrassing moments. So chock full of... well, saying "heady goodness" sounds... eew. But it was good, and surprisingly funny. And the fact that I can't think of anything else to say about it should indicate to you it's worth the watch.
this was way kewl not because of a twist on a hollywood double standard but because these guys are ordinary its mostly a comedy and they somehow still succeed
This movie is just so funny, I had a hard time understanding the characters sometimes but I have watched it a handful of times now and just love it, the dance scenes are a blast to watch, I even bought the ST! ::|::Favorite::|::
Far out this movie was funny. I mean how can it not be with Robert Carlyle. If you liked him in this then check out layer cake, its unusual but really interesting.
Heartwarming, sweet and much more touching than you might expect, and very funny to boot! Being a dumb American, I had trouble deciphering some of the British sland, but the story's easy to follow anyway. Very nice scene toward the end with Dave and his wife, epitomizing what all of us fat guys look for in a woman.
Damn, I seriously underated this the first time watched it about the time of release. Just re-watched it and release what an utter classic it really is. Superb script, acting and touches upon some strong social issues that affected the North of England.
Worth checking out aswell for a great performance by Tom Wilkinson.
Still can't figure out why I gave this 3.5 stars?!
i love this film, a good yorshire film with great british actors. and a grest script there are some grest lines that are really funny. grest story and just everything, its a great one to watch.
British comedy at its very best. Set in Sheffield at a time when the unemployement rate was extremly high. A dad's fight for the right to see his son see's him convince his friends to strip for cash. Brilliantly funny.
My first taste of British life. I laughed, talked back to the idiots, slapped my palm against my forehead in spots, but in the end I was laughing and happy to have seen these struggling dorks had built up their pitiful self-esteems to pull it off.
