The compass is not a compass it is an alethiometer and it is made of brass
The compass is not a compass it is an alethiometer and it is made of brass
i m followin the advistisment for this film in media and im already sick of it.....
Frodofan....You never questioned your faith? You never asked mommy and daddy why? How? When?
Or you are like all the other sheeps?
Alright this is for all the idiots who say this movie kills God. I don't care if the author is an atheist in this book and movie God does not die! I read the book and there isn't even the slightest hint of it. Yes I hear in the 3rd one that happens but not in this. Plus this is a fictional story that is not to be taken seriously! Bears wear armor and talk, a compass that is a truth measurer, witches, and animal spirits attached to all humans?? Like any of those things could happen!! It is not meant to be taken literally it is for pure entertainment! It is a made up story that has nothing to do with real life! Just let it go already because he does not die here!!
to all you people who think that this movie is acceptable, go research a little more about the creep that wrote these books. these movies arnt just disgusting, they are wrong, and to the one lady who said that children are supposed to question faith, thats the biggest bunch of crock ive ever heard
Please take a minute to read this. It is very important to every Christian
and I'm fairly sure you will not hear about it on network TV.
A new movie called 'The Golden Compass' (starring Nicole Kidman) is coming out in December. It is written by Phillip Pullman, a proud and outspoken atheist who belongs to secular humanist societies. He hates C.S. Lewis's 'The Chronicles of Narnia' and has written a triology to show the other side. The movie has been dumbed down to fool kids and parents in the hopes that they will buy his tr ilogy of books where in the end, THE CHILDREN KILL GOD and everyone can do as they please. Nicole Kidman stars in this movie, so it will probably be advertised a lot.
Here is another person's review:
Subject: Caution with this Movie...

>There will be a new children's movie out in December called 'The Golden
>Compass'. The movie has been described as 'atheism for kids' and is
>based on the first book of a trilogy entitled 'His Dark Mater
The movie is based on a work of fiction! I take it as that. Many said it is not good for people to see it but such comment only make more people curious that they go and see it. Producers like it - it means money!
please STOP telling others what to do. Movies are meant to entertain. I knew many simple and religious people who went and saw it, they never doubtewd their faith after that...let people have some fun.
True some "parts/talks/dialogues" are provocative - which is both healthy (to those who knew their faith and lived their religious belief) and dangerous too (for those who knew little and are easily persuaded by emotions and hearsay.
There will be follow-ups. Its business.

Well seems christman present for me....movie with new imagination and wonders and powers. That what we should know better !! Cool and better !! love Nicole ..
I have read all 3 books a few years ago, great work of fiction, I just may re-read them all! I wish people would stop passing judgement without reading the books!
It's fiction people, what are you afriad of? Your children questioning faith? Is'nt that what children are supposed to do?
The title change was Philip Pullman's idea. When he wrote the first book, he sent it to his American publisher under the name "The Golden Compass" When he never got a response back he sent another copy to his English publisher, but decided to change the title to "The Northern Lights." By the time he heard back from US, they were already processing the book, therefore it was to late to change the title.
I've read the first book and I've just started the second one. People really need to light up and learn to judge for themselves instead of jumping on a bandwagon. The trailers look amazing!!
I'm reserving judgement until after I've seen it, but this has so much potential to be royally cocked up by Hollywood.
very bad....in the book series the third book..I think...children kill God...so if your a christian don't go see this movie. EVIL!
stupid americans. its not a compass its an alethiometer. your all so thick leave good movies alone. n how can you make a book entirely based on religion without one mention of god or angels or religion. stupid americans is all i can say,
the book rocked but the film is going to ruin it. read the book before the film and boycott it with me
By putting stupid comments like *THIS MOVIE IS EVIL*, you're simply drawing conclusions about a movie you haven't even seen. To which I say, *THIS MEMBER IS STUPID*. See the movie before you pass judgment.
This should be a good movie, despite deviations from the book. It's unfortunate that ignorant Christians are making an issue of this movie, making it out to be some big evil thing.
Anyone curious as to their daemon? You can take a quiz at the movie's website and it will tell you your daemon's form, and his or her name.

I was nearly obsessed to find out mine, and I'm pleased to find that my daemon is the same as what I had thought he is.
I read this book a few years ago and I really liked it. I hope that the film sticks by the book as other films that came from books have been a disaster.
I just started reading the book earlier today. I'm about half way through it and I think it's a wonderful book so far. I can't wait to see the movie and I hope it doesn't disappoint me like the Harry Potter movies have so far.
is it true that they are removing the church from the film? if it is i'm not gonna c it,that wud be takin the whole point of the book away from what will now be a pointless film
I don't understand why American publishers always insist on changing the titles of British books at all. Its like how they changed the name of ‘Harry Potter and the Philosophers Stone’ to 'the Sorcerers Stone' because they thought American readers would be put off by the complicated word in the title! Lol.
Anyway I’m truly looking forward to this movie. I’m an absolute fan of the books. I had my doubts when I first watched the trailer (and still do) but after watching it again a few days later it didn’t seem so bad. Fingers crossed.
i cant wait for this film to come out the book is amazing so it should be to. i just dont understand why they used the american name for it instead of northen lights as it is in england
