I was hoping based on the high rating this would be a good movie but it was not my kind of movie at all, the music was excellent but otherwise I wouldn't recommend it.

Dustin Hoffman is great in this movie. It's a pretty sick plot, but it's all so easily handled that it doesn't seem so bad. The only thing that really made the movie great was the soundtrack by Simon and Garfunkel.

i know this is like a classic or whatever, but i found it kind of dry. maybe it is just my generation x-ness that made it so. i mean it was sexy at first but then just got ridiculous.

A classic product of its time, The Graduate is still poignant and unique. It is a film of mostly unspoken meanings and implicit ideas brilliantly communicated by great actors and a great director. Anne Bancroft is iconic as Mrs. Robinson, and Dustin Hoffman is painfully awkward and strangely human as a young man "worried about his future." When it is not overbearing, Simon & Garfunkel's music helps sell the themes of the story by making them personal. The effect of the film, especially the final shot, is more powerful for being subliminal.

The best movie of 1967. In the dawn of the age of hippies, the summer of 67, this movie grooved on about a cat who was fresh out of college and looking for love with a widowed hottie. Dustin Hoffman was great. Anne Bancroft was stellar. Simon and Garfunkle did the song.

I liked the ending & Hoffman played the character perfectly. I love how everything unfolded leading up to the end.

Never could get into this one. Feels outdated and lame. Annoying main character although I understand that's the purpose.

Dustin Hoffman, Anne Bancroft, Charles Webb, Katharine Ross, Mrs. Robinson, Calder Willingham, Benjamin Braddock, Elaine Robinson, Buck Henry, Mike Nichols...

"You're trying to seduce me, aren't you Mrs. Robinson?"

The name will ring forever as the epitomy of femme-fatale status, a powerful, controlling seductress who lures young boys into both a sexual fantasy and nightmare. It's easy to see why 'The Graduate' was considered daring and scandalous on it's initial release back in 1967,where the sexual revolution sparked a rebellion against authority, from parents to religion; the exposure of Benjamin Braddock's predicament only offering to indulge such a lifestyle.

When it was first released 'The Graduate' was hailed as a classic. On it's re-release a decade ago, however, most critics felt it hadn't aged well, holding a message that fit only in it's era. But I have to disagree. While it may not be perfect, it's flaws are minimal.

Dustin Hoffman's understated performance is perfect for the eponymous role, where his awkward mannerisms and uncertain attitude ring true to the adolescent in everyone. Anne Bancroft is then on scene-stealing form as temptress Mrs.Robinson, able to convey bitterness through a cold glare as well as sadness through the realisation of her aged and pathetic self. Katharine Ross, while fine as Mrs.Robinson's daughter Eliane doesn't really resonate due to her simple dialogue.

Mike Nichols unobtrusive directorial approach works best at getting the most from the hilarious script, which is bursting at the seams with dry humour and sardonic wit; remarkable and inventive shot styles help the audience empathise with Ben's misery at the prospect of the static and dull future of parent's social circle, as well as capturing the anxieties and squirms of teenage life. The nostalgic Simon and Garfunkel soundtrack also captures the hip rebellion of 60's adolescense, never dampening scenes but propelling them into ideological territory.

'The Graduate's only glaring fault is pace and editing; as soon as Ben embarks on his trip to woo Elaine scenes begin to drag, and add an unnecessary incohesive element to the picture. Thankfully, it's picked up by the outrageous, preposterous, and seemingly uncertain ending; but it's real and believable, at least contextually, just as it is easy to believe how Elaine and Ben fall for eachother in the first place.

'The Graduate', despite it's flaws, will remain a classic, and has already stood the test of time. Critics can scorn, but I'd rather laugh along with the situational awkwardness Ben constantly finds himself in. It's a nostalgic, rousing picture, even today for those who never experienced the revolution - rebellion will always be a teenage characteristic, no matter the era.

Man, I don't know. All of my problems with this movie come from the fact that Dustin Hoffman is passive-aggressive, insecure, and not at all fun to watch. Sure, he does well with the comedy presented to him, but I thought his character ran the course of Woody Allen's oeuvre - neurotic, controlling, prototypical of the aimless educated male. And that is not a place I like to visit, or have forced upon me. Security to him comes through controlling others, and he manages to find a target in Elaine. Even outside of his character's issues, I also thought the movie was extremely thin: half an hour of narrative spread out over shots of Dustin Hoffman looking melancholy.

I won't argue with this movie's technical merits, because it is brilliantly done on all fronts. Mike Nichols makes that aforementioned emptiness count, and that's a large part of why this movie was so successful. His direction more than deserved that Oscar, if only because it turned this movie from sad to watchable. I guess I'm the only one who has a problem with Simon and Garfunkel, though. No I don't want to go to Scarborough Fair, not if you two assholes are there.

Despite The Graduate's skillful crafting, I'm no great fan, and I think its "classic" status is totally baffling. One has to wonder what types of people this movie spoke to for it to gain so much acclaim.

You will have fun watching this movie in every aspect: good simple story, funny dialogues, good songs, beautiful chicks and Dustin Hoffman is very hilarious, he's really fun to watch.
I just like watching K. Ross and D. Hoffman falling in love in a very realistic way, their love is based on looks and good companion, that for me is the way it goes, and the last scene where you see their faces explains everything.
The more times you see this movie, the more you like it.

The ending on the bus is one of the best endings ever. The looks on Dustin Hoffman's and Katherine Ross's face where you can see the realization that maybe they didn't make the best choice and have the rest of their lives to live with that go down as the most subtle, unspoken acting ever.

Revolutionary in it's use of Simon & Garfunkel's music for it's soundtrack. A brilliant comedy that demands repeat viewings. This one of those movies that I watch at least once a year. Dustin Hoffman is perfect, Katharine Ross was never better and Anne Bancroft crafted the modern day "Cougar." Trivia: Bancroft the longtime wife of Mel Brooks, never understood why her character was so revered. In fact she was always embarrassed by the role.
One word. Are you listening? "Plastics"

A very good film but a little hard for me to watch. I feel very emotional when Benjamin gets caught in a no win situation in the end. I very much recommend it but beware of feeling a little sad by Benjamin's situation...

wow i have just seen this 4 the 1st time n think this is a good movie...i think that dustin hoffman is a great actor n i think he pulls of playing this role really well throughout the movie...i think the director of this Romance, Drama, Classics, Comedy movie had done a good job of directing this movie because you never know what 2 expect throughout this movie because he keeps you guessing what's going 2 happen next...this is a cult comedy classic movie from the 1960's...i think that anne bancroft who played Mrs. Robinson in this movie plays her really well in this movie n its a shame that she has sadly passed away...i think that the soundtrack 2 this movie is really awsome throughout because there's some good songs in this movie..this is a good movie..

Who doesn't want (or has had) real-life Mrs. Robinson? She's what we would call a 1960's MILF today. Yup, Hoffman bangs and older hot woman (Anne Bancroft) repeadly in this flick. Besides that, it's also great film.
