    Typical?Yes, done a million times?No. The Haunting is a completely original and frightening horror film. probably one of the best I've seen. The Haunting stars Liam Neeson as Dr. David Marrow a psychiatrist who specializes in sleep disorders, Dr. Marrow invites three participants...( read more) to old hill house, a gorgeous and gigantic mansion built some odd 100 years ago by Hugh Crain an industrial revolution textile tycoon, he built the house in hopes of filling it up with a large family, but all of Crain's children died during birth. Shortly after Crain's first wife killed herself before the house was finished. This caused Crain to become a recluse. As Marrow is telling the story a bizarre accident causes his research assistant to leave the mansion early, leaving Marrow with the three patients. Wild Theo(Zeta-Jones), "Bad Sleeper" Luke Sanderson(Owen Wilson), and Insomniac Eleanor "Nell" Vance. After the accident and his assistants leave of absences, strange things start to happen in the old mansion, and Nell is at the center of it. one night while Nell is sleeping she starts to hear voices call her, but nobody is there. The next night the same thing except this time she starts seeing things as well, the next morning she tries to tell Marrow that there is something wrong with this house and that they need to leave. Marrow informs her that they can't leave until the week is up. Soon enough one strange event after another starts to happen to all of them, Nell tries to uncover what is going on, And she soon finds out that the house is haunted by the owner Hugh Crain. With that said The Haunting explodes into a non-stop chill ride as you and Nell try to uncover the truth behind the haunting of hill house.

    This is a remake from the original the Haunting film. The film is more of a supernatural thriller than a horror film. The film has some great F/X and a great cast starring Liam Neeson, Catherine Zeta Jones, Owen Wilson and Lili Taylor. It is the story I found to be the weakest li...( read more)nk in the film. Worth a one time watch.

    How can this be good? It may be a little bit cool and intense, but it is so lame and Hollywood-typical compared to the original classic masterpiece of Robert Wise. Watch only if there's nothing else on Earth to see... perhaps.

    To be completely honest, I had fun with this movie than any other horror film I've seen. Well, it's not really a horror film; it's more of a suspense film. The effects looked like something from a 1970's fantasy movie, but I loved the storyline and the dialouge. I think I'm beggi...( read more)ning to really appreciate remakes for the first time :-) Sure it does have its boring moments, but it also had entertaining moments to balance it.
    Also, I don't care what people think about this movie. They might think it's dumb, but I seemed to enjoy it (kind of like 'The Happening'. I liked it, but everyone else didn't).
    The whole cast was wonderful in this good remake. I loved Catherine Zeta-Jone's wardrobe in the film and I couldn't get over to how young Owen Wilson looked and, well, I couldn't stop drooling over Liam Neeson (feel free to arrest me for falling in love LOL)! I just LOVE him! I love his movies, I love his acting, and I love his good looks. Call me obsessed ;-)
    Also for some weird reason, the movie kind of reminded me of 'Casper'. I don't know why, but it just did. It's a mystery.

    In conclusion, this is an 'undiscovered gem' that I will treasure and everyone else won't. You kind of have to be in a right mood to watch this film and absorb eveything in order to like it, but if you're not quite as picky, you'll like it! Just give it a chance.

    3 people get paid to spend the night in a haunted mansion. But they think that they are there for a insomnia experiment but are really there for an experiment in fear. Once there they all are haunted by the ghosts of the children and the man and woman who were killed there.

    I can't believe some of the reviews that I've read on Amazon's website. "The Haunting" is one of the best horror movies I've ever seen. I didn't see anything that I didn't like about it.
    Some people that are part of an experiment have to stay overnight in a house that they don'...( read more)t know is haunted. One of the women finds out that she is part of the family that died in the house and that she needs to stay there.

    The reason I liked "The Haunting" so much is because it did what most horror movies never have. It combines some great special effects with a good story that's actually a little bit haunting. Without a doubt, "The Haunting" has the best special effects I've ever seen in a horror movie. The haunted house that was used in the movie couldn't have been any better. The sound effects are also well done, like when you see the statues of kids and you can hear them all calling for Eleanor's help.

    If you like great horror movies, you can't miss "The Haunting." I can't believe it's not more popular than it is because I couldn't find anything I didn't like about it. Unlike most horror movies, it actually gave me a sense of fear from time to time and it kept me entertained all the way through. NOTE: That was my Amazon review from the year 2000, and this is still a favorite of mine. I've seen the original now and this one is much better in my book, one of the best remakes ever. Love how the house comes alive!
