waste of butt fucking time... one of the most pointless remakes ever only change was the main person was a chick insted of a dude.....rugter did WAY better then sean bean ever could be....
The original one was sweet back in the day but this one does pretty much one-up it in every department making it more effective, in that way. Sean Bean is the man, enough said.
an interesting movie, not particularly scary and the gruesome scenes needed a lot more work considering i laughed when watching them. A person getting teared in half? ha. Apart from the shit ass acting from Sophia Bush and the guy who played Jim. Sean Bean was bloody brilliant, haven't been a fan in the past but now he has potential!
This movie does start out with great potential, it has geniune intense scenes and utilizes some rockin' tunes. It's a shame that it had to implode into itself.
There are several plot holes, many are minor and probably forgivable except the extremely forced and staged conclusion. Although beautifully shot by director Dave Meyers, it's hard pressed to believe that under such heated personal involvement between the "victim" and "killer" that any law enforcement would even fathom to transport the seperate parties on the same highway and at the same time.
Because of it's flair and style I really wanted to like this film, however common sense took over.
I just bought this on DVD, and I liked it. I think that if you haven't seen the original and have something against older looking movies then you will definitely enjoy this. On the other hand, I prefer the original and felt like society's money would be better spent actually purchasing the original on DVD (its cheap) then seeing this. That would be a great F YOU to Hollywood! Another idea would be for movie theatres to show the original movie for a little less price and see what kind of results they get.
The movie itself is plenty intense, a decent amount of "boo scares", and gore quick pace, attractive leads, decent acting (for the most part). Compared to the rest of the movies being released these days, I would say this is definitely above par. The only thing that I can't get over is how much alike the original it was.
There are a couple differences (the girlfriend, and a few others) that didn't really add anything to the movie at all, and even with those differences (which you would think could actually change the movie a lot) a lot of scenes are almost shot for shot the same. Acting wise, I think the main male actor faired a little better than C.Thomas Howell... and i like Sean Bean a lot, but unfortunately he seemed to be doing a Rutger Hauer impression the whole time (dunno if that was his choice, or the filmmakers), but Rutger Hauer is the best "Hitcher", Sophia Bush, as attractive as she is... did not impress me very much acting wise, but she wasn't horrible either.
All in all, I give this a 7, and I would personally give the original an 8.5. This one did some things better than the original, i think the original was more intense without feeling as "forced" as this one does (the level of brutality in movies feels pretty forced lately, you may understand what i mean, you may not) I honestly think that Hollywood could make some money if they would retouch some old movies and re-release them, and advertise them correctly.
This is the most underrated film eye have ever layed eyes on! You just have to hate movie critics every now and then. Seriously people how can you dish dirt on this great film? This is easily the best of the classic horror movie remakes by Platnum Dunes. Haven't seen the original so eye can't compare this version to that one right now. Yes the movie does follow the standard horror movie formula of cast a pretty boy and hottie girl and place them in a distressing situation. But come on who ever heard of smart party going college kids? And now about the killer he seems fairly friendly at first and the Indiana Jones like look of his character adds to that but when he shows his true colors he becomes an evil Indiana Jones look-alike the end result is chilling. The killer is played by Sean Bean,(haa his last name is bean and his first name rymes with bean) who totally deserved an Oscar nomination for his shocking performance, in my opinion he played a very screwed up and scarey character miles more disturbing than Heath Ledger's take for the Joker character in The Dark Knight,(no offense to him though r.i.p. Ledger). John Ryder is given a ride early on by the young couple and soon attempts to kill them as they are driving down a lonely stretch of highway. In a brief struggle he is knocked out of the car and is left for dead on the side of the raod. They couldn't be far from wrong about him being not being dead. This film has some of the most tension packed scenes of any slasher film ever made. The jailhouse scene in particular is stunningly creepy. And one scene in particular involving an entire squad of police cars plus the fleeing couple and the pursueing killer is the most amazing scene you will ever see in any film of this kind. Now mind you people the only reson i'm giving this high score is because of Sean Bean's mysterious portrayal of a twisted psychotic killer, and because of the amazing action scenes that will have you saying "Wow eyev'e never seen that before!" If it wern't for Sean and the action this movie would have likely ended up in my list of worst movies of all time list. The Hitcher is undoubtfully the greatest slasher film ever made, even if you don't agree you have to admit it's better than the trash that this genre of film ussually offers.
This movie scared me, i swear if i ever see a hitchhiker i will never, repeat never pick them up i will keep driving and never offer lifts to anyone unless i know them and well. This i have to say is Sean Beans' most terrifying role because not only his muscular physic but that American accent he dons for the movie. I will admit i have not seen the original but i would like to so I could compare the 2 films. But honestly this movie is really very underrated and is really a very good movie to watch, especially if your alone :]
A heart-pounding thriller that's jammed with explosive action. A real adreniline rush. This film grabs you like you wouldnt belive. A chilling edge of your seat ride. Sean Bean gives a superb and bone-chilling performance. He's the most satanic, evil and charasmatic villian I've seen in a long time. He steals the show in every scene he's in. Heart-racing and packed on fear fuel.
I haven't seen this film, nor have I any interest to see it. Once again, Hollywood is remaking a movie, because they are running out of original ideas.
I rarely have time or patience for remakes.
The original 1986, was a thriller. I couldn't imagine anyone else playing John Ryder, then Rutger Hauer. He really has a creepy air to him, that was perfect for that role. Maybe I'm just addicted to anything 80s, but give me C. Thomas Howell and Jennifer Jason Leigh's version anyday.
Stick with Rutger Hauser 1986 orignal verison. This one stucks from Michael Bay ass.It did't need to be remade and thats why it crashed and burn....Stay Clear!
Sean Bean you should on better!
the same, of other remakes like pulse if you going to do a remake of a classic this shit is a insult to the original. is crap and the only good thing is see sophia Bush but only see Her
Nothing substantial in this piece of gory fluff, but some semi-decent set pieces and a slick as hell Sean Bean somewhat compensates for the lack of genuine scares the original had in spades.
Sean Bean does a great job as the bad guy. Zachary Knighton and Sophia Bush make a great team. Watch for these two in the future. They have a great career ahead of them. The directing, however, wasn't as good as I would've hoped. But it was a great thriller movie. A must see for fans of the genre. Oh, and Sophia Bush is freakin' HOT!
I loved this film. Sean Bean and Zachary Knighton were so sexy! It was action packed and made me jump a few times too. Loved the ending where the hitcher met his ending.
''It was pouring rain and he just needed a lift.''
Remake of the classic 1986 Rutger Hauer horror film. While driving on an American desert highway, two college students pick up a hitchhiker. It doesn't take long for them to discover he's a maniac, but their troubles are just beginning.
Sean Bean: John Ryder
The Hitcher doesn't by any means break any new ground but what it does is to create a suspenseful atmosphere and it's an exciting ride from start to the abrupt end. The best thing about the movie is the fast pace which was fast and consistent. Director David Meyers did an average job behind the camera. He managed to produce some exciting and disturbing scenes. He never made things overly bloody and he did come up with some decent escalating violent episodes.
The screenplay was average and kind of predictable. The dialog was bland and so were most of the 2D characters. Also, there could have been a little more development to the story. By the end of the film, I was wondering what the point was. There was no real motive, no reason, it was just a crazy, sadistic man. I wished that the story had a little more depth to it so that it wouldn't just be a gruesome horror movie with shallow goals. Also, the film was largely unrealistic so there were a few unintentional laughs but not enough of them to ruin the entire experience.
Indeed, it's in one such scene that The Hitcher 2007 most carelessly lets its mask slip. Bush, presumably a bit tired from all that running about in her undies, lies down on her motel-room bed for a nap (like you do when there's a mass murderer after you). The TV in the corner is on, Hitchcock's The Birds flickering out into the dark. What's this? A neat echo of the harrowing claustrophobia she's feeling? A knowing wink to the Master Of Suspense himself? Or more to do with the fact that Platinum Dunes (The Hitcher's production company) are next working on a remake of, you guessed it, The Birds? Talk about product placement.
The acting by Sean Bean was exceptional giving the best performance of the film but he's also the most talented actor on offer here. He was appropriately creepy as the hitcher and he really put a lot of energy into his role. Sophia Bush was surprisingly good despite her bland character. She was a lot better here than in Stay Alive. Zachery Knighton was so bland although he did play a likable character so it wasn't hard to feel sorry for him. Neal McDonough was good even though he didn't get a lot of screen time.
Overall The Hitcher was a decent thriller with enough scary moments to satisfy the audience but I don't think it's one for repeated viewings or a piece with any depth or vision, purpose or point.
Very average but an easy pastime with a few unexpected turns and enough blood and violence to keep you glued. It's kind of annoying that the only character I really wanted to die was like, the only one to survive, but that's just movies for you. Really far from spectacular and though having not seen it, I presume the original version is much better...
