I quite liked this movie, It seemed a little different without being too different, the feel of the movie has a certain "Bridget Jones" feel to it somehow. Maybe its because its a British feeling romance comedy.. despite Cameron and Jack being American, lovely story about two couples who find love.
Get story line~ Got good heart, i little annoying with the actor that plays Cam's ex... there sense on screne are so fake, which pull the whole movie down. couldnt they find an actor that has cemistry with Cam?
This was a very typical happy ending romance, but still worth it for the warm and fuzzy feeling. Not altogether crap, but not Oscar material either. Great for hopeless romantics. Who knew Jack Black could be so goofily charming?
diaz's acting is superb. Both winslet and diaz delivered their role as if they are theirs'. they fit into it just right. law smiles and his character came into life- just like that. sigh!
a movie on women empowerment-not-that-obvious- concept
a modern happy-ever-after-quest.
I have mixed feelings about this movie. In the end I liked it and I really liked the relationship that formed b/w Jack and Kate and Jude's performance was good, but I didn't like Cameron's performance and to me it actually took so much away from the film, it left me undetermined about my feelings for the movie.
I honestly did not expect this movie to be as good as it was. There was certainly chemistry between Jude Law and Cameron Diaz. The relationship between Jack Black and Kate Winslet was very interesting to watch unfold, as well as her friendship with her neighbour. All in all a heart warming movie!
The Cameron Diaz/Jude Law scenes were sometimes (well, mostly) complete crap but even then I couldn't help but love "The Holiday". Black and Winslet are great together (Black doesn't overdo it) and the story doesn't fail. Here I go liking chick flicks again. Nuts.
Two women, both from opposite ends of the earth are equally matched in their rather complicated and tragic love lives. They arrange via the internet to switch homes for two weeks, hoping that the distance will heal their broken hearts; which it does, just not in the way that they expected it to. 'The Holiday' boasts an A list cast of Hollywood's finest comic and dramatic actors, but unfortunately this is possibly the only good thing about it. From the very start the film falls in to a confusion about whether it wants to be a rom-com or a romantic drama, and unfortunately it mixes both unequally and unsuccessfully. What also annoyed me was the fact that there is so much dialogue! Every single point the director tries to make is over-shadowed by excessive explanation; the first draft of the script must have wiped out an entire rain-forest. I know I am the intended audience and that this film is designed to follow certain conventions in order to attract my gender, but I found this really quite patronising. Not all of us are suffering from un-requited loves or neurotic tendencies, and if we are we normally have a tad more control over it; we're not quite as pathetic as this film represents us to be! Having said this though, Kate Winslet plays the co-dependent 'wet drip' style character to perfection, and Cameron Diaz is also good as the neurotic relationship analyst. Jude Law is acceptable and Jack Black is decent in his usual comical role. There's also a hilarious 2 second cameo from Dustin Hoffman which really had me cracking up. A tad cliché and quite typical of Hollywood romance, 'The Holiday' isn't the best chick-flick around, but it'll do for a Sunday afternoon when there's not much else to watch.
One of the best movies I have ever seen. The only flaw was that Cameron Diaz wore so many different coats. How could she possibly get all of them stuffed into that small amount of luggage??
A very qute story. I specially liked Jude and Cameroon which was so charmy and sweat. I felt a lillte bit of myself in there story. But this is not a movie I will remember. It doesn´t have many special or heartbreaking scenes. But althought good for this time!
this is a really good romantic comedy with a good selection of cast such as jack black, kate winslet and rufus wots his name lol it was really funny film
Fabulous Love story~one of the best on screen romances one can see wid brilliant performances from all the four leads.Jude Law is DELICIOUS,Jack Black is so LOVEABLE n Kate Winslet n Cameron Diaz r IRRESISTABLE~..In short~MUST SEE!
A funny and surprising comedy about two women - one from Britian and one from the U.S. - who swap homes for the holidays and meet their true loves across the world. Great cast!
this film is execelent, when i watched the first time i had my quilt around me with chocolate and pepsi! wot more do u want then chocolate and a good movie? anyway i love this film as its a great idea, 2 people swaping homes 4 2 weeks. the cast were superb and the quick apperance from dustin hoffan was hillarious!hans zimmer is a fantatsic composser as evry film i've seen so far with his music in i've loved. plus this is the best music ever written 4 a rom-com! i've ran out of words! the only problem is that there wasn't enough jack black and kate winslet!
The movie is emotional, romantic and funny, all at the same time!!Sigh, i'm so much in love wid this movie, dat i jus cant get enuf!!I mean....Jack Black is there to crack jokes,Kate and my fav cameron are dere to fill up the romantic n the emotional sides and Jude to fill up small parts of all of these!!It's perfectly amazing!!trust me, u cant get enuf...........
Great movie! Kate Winslet is brilliant! Loved this movie!! It's just so honest and open about relationships and what a great story and wonderful cast. Aahhh.
The downsides to this movie: Cameron Diaz the actress, as Amanda (her role wasn't so awful, though), Amanda's TERRIBLE trailers, the awful voiceover guy in the trailers doing voiceover in the movie, and Rufus Sewell looking gross.
The other actors are very talented and respectable. I loved the cameos, too. Nice use of songs, especially Imogen Heap, Frou Frou.
It's a very good romantic film. I didn't love it, but I do see that it is well done.
Its a cute movie about relationships. Two women exchange houses for a the christmas holiday because they have just broken up with their significant other. And they find new love in and how to heal from the pain. Great cast. I really liked this movie.
