  Fun, entertaining and gory French zombie film that will surely appeal to fans of the genre. This is purely a gore film, and if you're looking for great performances, you'll be sadly disappointed. The French are great filmmakers and have made some stunning works of horror, La Horde being one of several films to come out of that country to offer something that horror fans can truly enjoy. It lacks in effective performances, but there's plenty of zombie carnage, which more than makes up for its flaws. The film manages to be very entertaining despite it simplistic concept, and more often, than not, you're able to pull off at lot more with basic elements. There's a good picture here, and it has enough going for it to make for a worthwhile viewing experience. The cast do a good here, and despite some lacking lead performances, there's enough here to appeal to demanding zombie fans. Directors Yannick Dahan and Benjamin Rocher do a good enough job and keeping the plot moving and interesting. Enjoyable overall, La Horde is a different entry from the usual horror films that have come out of France, and there's enough good gore effects to thrill the viewer from start to finish. Even if it's lacking in effective plot development, the film is worth seeing for its mindless zombie kills, which is what this film is all about. France has definitely made a genre picture that should appeal to viewers and fans everywhere. The gore is great, and that's all that matter in the long run. Don't look for a great story, because you won't find it. This is purely a mindless horror romp, and it does it very well.

  <i>"I wanna get out of here alive, our chances are better with you."</i> An end of the world battle between gangsters, cops and zombies. <center><font size=+2 face="Century Schoolbook"><b><u>REVIEW</u></b></font></center> Cops going to get revenge for the death of one of their brothers only to have the raid go horribly wrong. Then things get even worse when the dead come back to life and the zombies attack. Bloody straight forward action film about trying to get away from the dead and get out of the high rise they are trapped in is for the most part a roller coaster ride into darkness. The effects are good, the plot serviceable and the performances engaging. Its the sort of film that just carries you along for a good chunk of its running time. The trouble is that films insistence not to explain anything begins to take its toll in the later part of the film when you realize that they haven't explained a couple of key points which are left hanging and seem more like lapses in internal logic or laziness on the filmmakers part (like why the zombies come to that building). Sure the characters may not have known the answers to some of the questions but at the same time there are too many unanswered to be satisfying, especially when the film ends with a really big question. For gore hounds this is a must since they'll eat it up. For other horror lovers its worth a look since they'll like the things the film gets right.

I wish that it had a more concrete ending, however. I always have issues with movies that don't give me a clear ending. But, other than that, this movie was FULL of zombie fun!!

  This is one ultra-cool as hell and adrenaline-charged horror movie. A tense, terrific, epic, gory and spectacular horror movie. One of the greats zombie movies ever made, this is the film Resident evil wishes it could of been.A brilliant and bloody great example of zombie cinema. It has loads of attitude, blood, suspense and explosive fire power. A hard-core, slick and stylish thrill-ride that is just flat-out unforgettable. It's smart, sharp and wildly unpredictable all the way to the end and still has you wanting more. The characters and the story are bad ass. Even thow it feels familiar it's truly a fantastic piece of work that's all it's own. A truly awesome movie that will blow you away. It just kicks that much ass.

  You wanna see how 'Resident Evil' should of been? well then I suggest you watch this pretty good French zombie horror. There is absolutely nothing new in this concept from all the other zombie films out there, we've seen it all before but this is a very compact, fast paced, no silly frills, all action gun fest, survivors v zombie army, simple. Its what Anderson should of done with RE which like this is more action over horror where as Romero flicks tend to lean more towards suspense and horror, either way this is frankly better than all those zombie flicks put together. The plot....some gangsters and cops (the cops were trying to take the crooks down) get trapped in a high rise block of flats when a zombie plague breaks out and they all must work together to fight their way out to freedom, its balls to the wall blood, guns and hacking from top to bottom, simple but effective. Put it this way, this is basically a zombie version of 'Dusk Till Dawn' where it starts as a brooding cop drama but U-turns off into horror. The cast are also really good as a mismatched team of cops n crooks, character actors in the same vein as Danny Trejo with unique looks quirks that really make this film what it is and give a comicbook/graphic novel feel. Only thing that I didn't like was how the survivors don't quite grasp the fact that filling a zombie full of lead doesn't get them anywhere unless they hit the head haha also nothing is explained, how or why this zombie plague breaks out, its never revealed but that also works for the film too because like 'Dusk Till Dawn' it just dives straight in and goes for broke which leaves you craving story and more film time hehe well worked :) There may be sequels to this but I think that would ruin it as this works so well as an individual story but maybe other stories or chapters from within this films universe could work, cast would be hard to match again though.

  It's a bit of a mixed bag, why are they not shooting at the zombies in the head? What kind of plan was that to blow up the door instead of just busting in to surprise the gangsters? There's no need to make the characters act this dumb in order to create tension. This also reminded me why i still can't fully like running super-strong zombies: why would an average person with an average body would all of a sudden gain more speed and strenght if their bodies are still the same? Also, why was the movie so desperate to make me want to hate the character of the female cop? Anyway, there's some nice zombie action and the movie looks great, proof that you don't need a huge budget to make something look and feel right. It's better than the average zombie movie getting released these days, but still feels that something is missing.

Acting is good and there is some fun bits including the old man with a automatic machine gun. I urge any zombie/horror fan to see this when u can you won't be disappointed and its takes the french again to come up with the goods again!!.......well done my froggy friends.

  **1/2 out of **** If you like your zombies served fast and your action served with a side-dish of brutality; then the French zombie-action film "The Horde" is likely to be your wet dream. Probably not one of your fondest, but a fond one nevertheless. I admire it for just going fucking berserk for long periods of time and thoroughly entertaining my thirst for blood, guts, and the undead while leaving all deep characterization and narrative credibility at the door. As a film for its genre, it is relentless and fast-paced; exciting and hyperactively violent. As a film in general, it is perhaps far too simplistic and forgettable for its own good. But if one is to judge it on the grounds that they should - in this case its own - then one will also discover that it's not all so bad. If you've got at least one quarter of an entire film brimming with at least some artistic inspiration, you've got more than most films these days as it is. A quartet of French policeman (and one woman) raid an abandoned apartment complex in an act of vengeance against some depraved drug dealers who killed a close friend (whose body is seen dead at the end of the film; or at least we presume it is his). They are overpowered and held captive by the dealers, who are armed with guns, knives, and drugs; but not for long. Just as things are about to heat up, hordes of the undead come crashing through the doors and flooding the hallways. One is enough to kill several of the previously "living"; these are powerful beings that, like most zombies today, have outlived the convention that George Romero popularized of zombies being slow and clumsy. The groups are split up and the remaining cops must team up with the thugs to get out alive. I think the style, carefully yet recklessly executed by directors Benjamin Rocher and Yannick Dahan, more than makes up for most of the flaws, which include, but are not limited to, the lack of character development and the rapid pacing sometimes getting ahead of itself. The film does stop for a moment in an attempt to conjure up some sort of suspense but it doesn't quite succeed in doing so; the directors think that the style that they possess alone can create tension, but they are wrong. Still, it's a hell of a lot more tense than most Hollywood pictures and I have to commend it for that. Good, bad; it's still worth its weight in blood. In addition to the weak characters, one of the film's other main weaknesses is its inability to explain the origin of the undead. We see a little excerpt from television but that's about it. Outside on the horizon we see a city exploding right in front of our eyes. Could the zombies themselves be doing this much damage, or is it our attempt to stop them? "The Horde" doesn't have all the answers and doesn't necessarily need some of them, but would have benefitted greatly if it had at least a few. But rational explanations aside, the zombies are nice looking and they can certainly die real good. The gore effects are really great here. There are a number of badass moments that make the film worth checking out on its own: such as a somewhat climactic showdown in a garage and various hallway shootouts. There's also a quirky old man who fights with an axe and can't seem to stop using the word "chink". But the honest truth is that this isn't a great zombie movie. It isn't even really a good one. But I can't ignore that some considerable craft went into making it; it's just as if the filmmakers were more interested in the effects, the actors (all of whom seem very professional and give good performances), and the camerawork that they had access to over the more important things such as the story and the characters. Nothing but the set-up and the locations are very well drawn out, but that's OK. "The Horde" is gruesome and crazy enough without being particularly interesting or intellectually stimulating. In spite of it being a foreign zombie flick, you'd best leave logic and your criticisms behind. For what it is, I didn't find it boring and it distracted me for a good hour and a half. I know there's a better film to be seen from these filmmakers and I hope it surfaces soon, because "The Horde" indicates a bright future for the both of them so long as next time they develop the substantial elements rather than disregard them all-together.

  Disappointing, was expected to have a much better storyline, but it turns out to be quite stupid. Predictable, filled with ugly looking people. And for English version: Bad Dubbing. Cut the crap and kill the drug dealers already. It's not easy to be a zombie killing cop.

  Brilliant French zombie action/horror. When a gang of cops go to an old block of flats to confront and get revenge on a gang that killed a team member/friend they know its going to be brutal but what they don't expect is a shit load of zombies getting involved to! Theres guns, theres gore, theres zombies, it has moments of hardcore gore and horror as well as some humour to make this a fun and action packed film. The best zombie film i've seen in a while.

  "La Horde" is an insanely gore and violent French horror film. The plot simple but is full of action and the pace of the film doesn't let up by not getting bogged down in explaining the reasons or cures for the zombies, instead focusing on the tensions in the uneasy alliance between the police and the gangsters. The scares are good and the tension is slowly built higher and higher. "La Horde" has to be one of the best zombie/action film.
