I absolutely loved this film. Robert Redford gives yet another strong performance, he is a brilliant actor. For me this movie would not have been the same without Kristin Scott and Scarlett Johansson. Both of these great actresses gave integral performances which made this movie as good as it was. I also loved the cinematography in this film and the story.

such a beautiful adaptation of the book... minus the end. many people were upset by the ending, as was i. however, robert redford was wonderful, along with scarlett johansson's breakout performance.

Great film about a man hired to aid an injured horse and his owner, a traumatized little girl played by a young Scarlett Johansson. A very heart warming story with a great cast.

This isn't a film, it's a symphony: a magnificent project that perfectly suits Robert Redford's taste, style, and abilities. The subsequent romantic overtures between these two adults from different worlds play out against the Herculean task of helping the tormented girl and her terrified animal. Redford once again proves himself the most generous of directors; all the best scenes and lines go to his costars.

The book is way better. The movie is just long and boring. The book is a little boring, but not as boring as the movie.

This is not only a great movie, but it's also an awesome book! Even if they had changed some stuff, it's still one of my favorit movies. I hardly ever cry when I watch movies, but this is the fourth movie that made me cry, and that is truly something!

I like this movie very much. Great Cinematography and great acting by everone. The mother of a severely traumatized daughter enlists the aid of a unique horse trainer to help the girl's equally injured horse.

A beautiful movie. Besides the great scenery of Montana, the cast's portrayal is very good also, especially Robert Redford, Kristin Scott Thomas and Scarlett Johansson. That horse is really memorable!

I seriously thought I would love this movie, it seemed like the most perfect movie ever for me to watch. I however felt truly disgusted by how awful this movie truly was.

This movie is about a young girl named Grace, she and her friend Judith goes riding when a horrible accident happens that kills Judith and her horse. Grace survives, but they have to cut off almost her whole right leg. Her horse also survives, but has become crazy and attacks anybody who comes near it. Grace dosen't want anything to do with the horse, but her mother is determined to help Grace and the horse and drives a long way to a horse whisperer in hope that he can help heal the horse, Pilgrim.

    Sounds fine and dandy, huh?
Well, then take the real story starting from the accident.

Grace mother, Annie (I think?), is an overworked busy editor of a magazine who spends most of her day on the phone. She only thinks of herself and her wellbeing and both her daughter and husband are kind of fed up with her.
When Grace is in hospital an unable to talk , Annie recieves a call from the vet. She tells Annie they have found Pilgrim, but he is in such a bad condition, "I've never seen an animal with these kinds of injuries before", she asks Annie for permission to put the poor horse down.
You feel so sad when you see Pilgrim with his injuries, he is just suffering. But Annie whines "No, I can't make that decision, blah blah, it's Grace horse", so the poor horse is kept alive for their comfort, discaring the fact that the horse is suffering to live for their comfort. I have had to make the horrible decision to put my pet down, and when you make that decision, you can't think of yourself, you have to put your pet first. Is he living because I want him do or because he is comfortable in life? It's your responsability as an owner to make sure your pet isn't suffering, and in this movie, they clearly put their own well-being before the horse.

Anyway, the horse suffers the worst thinkable pain in recovery and is so traumatized by the events it becomes crazy. Whenever anybody goes near it, it becomes angry and attacks. When seeing the horse in this state, Grace dosen't want him anymore and want him put down, which in my oppinion, would have been the right decision.
However, selfish mom wants to come higher on her daughters popularity list, so she looks in all books and magazines for an answer to heal the horse. She finds a horse whisperer and calls him, he says he dosen't want to do it and hangs up.
    What does selfish mother do?
She's going to take the horse and Grace up to him. WTF? Take a no!
Grace says she dosen't want to come along, so the mother forces her. The poor horse is terrified of going in the trailer, and when in the trailer on the road, screams in terror whenever a truck drives past them.
I was so sickened by how selfish the mother was - the horse was suffering!

Mother tries making friends with Grace, but understandably, Grace is fed up with her mother and angry with her, and she won't talk to her and gives her an "attitude". Mother gets irritated and angry with her daughter. Mother tries forcing Grace to a place, Grace says she don't want to go, mother drives her there anyway. When the place is closed, Grace tells her mother "i told you so, but you insisted on me going." Then mother starts an argument how sorry she feels for herself and that her daughter is a spoiled brat. Grace tells her exactly what I would do, "You forced me her. You made this decision". Of course mother can't take being wrong, so she leaves her daughter by the car and goes away to cry like a baby, feeling sorry for herself.
Like HELLO!!! You are not in your own town, what if a murderer would have come and killed your daughter? Or a car thief?
But conviniently, nobody comes, and conviniently, daughter waits by the car until it becomes dark.
Yes, mother sits for hours feeling sorry for herself, not caring about her daughters safety.

Anyway, mother drives to the horse whisperer, Tom, and of course she convinces him to help the horse. And of course only a couple of minute training makes the horse trust him, or else there wouldn't be a movie.

The mother is so annoyingly stupid, Tom is training the horse in a little lake, and the mother comes there. Does she turn off her f:ing cellphone? Of course not, and of course she spooks the horse when the recieves a call. Does she care? Nope, she of course has to take the call and talk to the person, then she tells Tom "I don't feel comfortable about you taking these risks".
    Can't you just shoot her?!

Of course she and Tom falls in love. What could he possibly see in this uncaring, selfish b----?

As I'm not that interested in country life, and I found the film's love story so unbelievable and ridiculous, I didn't liked it that much.

A young Scarlett Johansson plays a traumatized girl who, with her mother and horse, go to see a gentleman who may just be able to help daughter and horse heal just a bit from a devistating accident. Redford shines as usual here.

Up until Seabiscuit, this had been my all time favorite horse movie featuring a fantastic storyline, engaging performances,, solid screenplay, and a sensitive, moving journey through self healing and self awareness.

The Horse Whisperer is about a young girl trying to mend her own broken spirits after a horrible accident injures her leg and nearly takes the life of her favorite horse. Scarlett Johansson shines in this role early on in her career and Kristin Scott Thomas turns in a noteworthy performance.

Robert Redford has made a fine career for himself directing and starring in movies like this.
