Eighty strangers from all walks of life are ripped out of their daily lives and forced to participate in a brutal race to the death. The rules are simple; follow the arrows or you will die, step on the grass and you will die, get lapped twice and you will die. Only one participant will survive. Race or die. There can only be one winner, but who will survive and for what purpose?

Critic Reviews from Rotten Tomatoes

"Despite the essentially formulaic nature of the proceedings, the film does boast some nasty twists that prove galvanizing."
‑ Frank Scheck, Hollywood Reporter
"Though the dialogue is pretty basic and the narrative dots don't always quite connect, "The Human Race," in its own gutsy, grindhouse-movie way, manages style, vision and tension."
‑ Gary Goldstein, Los Angeles Times
"Most of the characters are either types or anonymous bodies in motion... but the handful with backstories are well played by a cast composed largely of actors with respectable and diverse TV and indie-movie credits."
‑ Maitland McDonagh, Film Journal International
"Utterly generic, but reasonably well-played and directed"
‑ Roger Moore, McClatchy-Tribune News Service
"By the time half the contestants have been offed you may be less interested in who will win than when it will all be over."
‑ Michael Nordine, L.A. Weekly
"The central gimmick is just another excuse to let the bloodletting commence in this low-budget thriller."
‑ Todd Jorgenson, Cinemalogue.com
"This is a laughably bad movie, but an amazing drinking game waiting to happen."
‑ Gabe Toro, The Playlist
"a bleak and often bloody portrait of humanity as a plaything for drives and forces beyond its comprehension or control."
‑ Anton Bitel, Sight and Sound
"Real suspense and shocks are MIA in a movie that's eventful but lacks the atmospherics needed to be scary."
‑ Dennis Harvey, Variety
"Instead of a grandly ghoulish dash for survival, the movie revels in ghastly behavior with a mouthbreathing concentration that's as irritating as it is worthless."
‑ Brian Orndorf, Blu-ray.com
"The Human Race, a dreary, smeary, low-low-budget but even lower-inspiration horror flick, is likely to leave viewers rueing the craven, disappointing species into which they were born."
‑ Chris Klimek, The Dissolve
"Filled with fine performances, splattery effects and an electrifying out-of-nowhere third-act twist that pushes Hough's feature debut into instant cult status."
‑ Simon Foster, Screen-Space
