It's a nerve-reckingly tense and explosively suspenseful film.A riveting and full-throttle action-thriller. A near perfect film. A masterpiece. A full amount of hold on to your breath excitement that never lets up. An emotionally-charged, heart-pounding and unforgettably powerful...( read more) movie that will take your breath away. A knockout, the action and tension build up then explodes right in your face when you least expect it. A brilliant, sizzeling and well-constructed character study and very well-crafted piece of work from Kathrynn Bigelow. An exhilerating edge of your seat entertainment. An all-star cast who all deliver great performances. Jeremy Renner is a revelation, he gives a stunning, unique and outstanding performance. Anthony Mackie is electric, giving an equally impressive performance that shines. David Morse is fantastic. Guy Pearce is teriffic, Ralph Fiennes is brilliant. A film of profound and gut-busting impact that has not been seen since Platoon. Flat-out electrifying. A must-see movie. This is definately a movie you will want to see again and remember as one of the best films of it's kind if not the decade.

A moving film that contains some of the most tense scenes I've seen in a long time. Although it begins to slow down towards the end, an otherwise very enjoyable movie

Intense, deactivating bombs in the Middle East. A lot of surprises in this film especially with the casting. Some parts could have been left out but overall this movie hits you in the face with realism.

One helluva tension-packed rolla coaster. Had many sub plots that kinda went nowhere, but the overall theme was awesome.

Loved it, hated it, blew its brains out.

    Just kidding.

    Didn't hate it.

The Hurt Locker has no real plot to follow. For once, this is it's main strength. It details the heroism and bravery of men constantly on the edge of death. Bigelow uses her action credentials to create some of the most unbearably tense scenes in recent memory. The entire film is...( read more) tense, just like a film set in an explosive environment should be. It's unpredictable and dangerous, and a film where star power does not guarantee safety. Great to see Renner as a leading man in such a well crafted piece of work. It's main purpose is to entertain and it does it well, but it never forgets to give us characters to sympathise with. The fear literally overcomes the audience, but the emotion is mostly played deep within the characters. Realistic or not, this is the most uncomfortable I've felt in a war movie and that's how it should be.

Hm, I don't understand why all the fuss.
The movie follows an american bomb squad during a number of missions in Bagdad, Irak.
Reminded me of "Black Hawk Down", without beeing that dynamic, but it's easier to follow the story in this case, even if for much of the duration of th...( read more)e movie the story stagnates and the thrilling and emotional engaging moments are few and far in between.
And why sign actors like Fiennes and Pearce if don't let them do a proper job, were just cameos, they were altogether 15 minutes on the screen, and that was a great shame.
The main character is sympathetic enough, but not all that complex as he wants to be, and yes, J. Renner does a good job.
And I suppose to feel sorry for the americans troops, ah, why?

I had really high hopes for this movie, as it wasn't following the average soldier in a war setting. I guess I was hoping that there would be more learning of his craft, as opposed to just him going and doing the job. It took me a while for the movie to set in after I saw it, but...( read more) I wasn't a big fan of how the first half was really slow, then the second half was just crammed with story telling.

Hands down the best Iraq war movie done so far. Tells a story about soldiers that I don't think Hollywood wants to get out there. And no "Bush is the devil!" messages! Imagine that.
  • November 3, 2009
Good with a great ending. Though one or two Hollywood cameos jeopordise its documentary look.

a little bit below expectation (just a tiny bit..)
in my opinion, this is Star trek disguised as a middle east war movie. The films depends completely on the relationship of two main characters, Sgt William James, the cocky kirk-like adrenaline junkie (played with a certain charism...( read more)a by one of the underrated actor this decade, Jeremy Renner),and Sgt. JT Sanborn, the more rational thinking by-the-book Spock-like persona (played with such intense proportion by Anthony Mackie) during their day in iraq. Bigelow approach for reality action also help the movie from falls into a typical war movie.this is different, and definitely one worth to watch

Kathryn Bigelow, Mark Boal and Brian Geraghty just screened the film in LA and had a great Q&A after the show. They posted a nice video segment. What do you think? Check out the link.
