The Informers

Amber Heard, Austin Nichols, Billy Bob Thornton, Brad Renfro, Cameron Goodman, Chris Isaak, Jessica Stroup, Jon Foster, Kim Basinger, Lou Taylor Pucci, Mel Raido, Mickey Rourke, Rhys Ifans, Suzanne Ford, Winona Ryder

Focusing on the Los Angeles of the early 1980s, "The Informers" balances a vast array of characters that represent both the top of the heap (a Hollywood dream merchant, a dissolute rock star, an aging...( read more  read more... ) newscaster) and the bottom (a voyeuristic doorman, an amoral ex-con). Connecting all these intertwining strands are the quintessential Brett Easton Ellis protagonists--a group of beautiful, blonde young men and women who sleep all day and party all night, doing drugs--and one another--with abandon, never realizing that they are dancing on the edge of a volcano.

I'm not going to bullshit you- I slept through half of this. Thank god, did I sleep through half of this.

This is usually the part where I give the plot synopsis. Right here in paragraph number two. But I'm not because I slept through half of this. And it was a good sleep becau...( read more)se I didn't half to watch this left over piece of stool floating in a bus station toilet.

Essentially, the movie is Billy Bob Thorton trying to hook up with Wynona Ryder, while being married to Kim Basinger, who is getting it on with some blond (there's 25 of them, I can't keep track of which one) that's a friend of her sons, meanwhile there's a tacked on little piece made just for Mickey Rourke just because he almost won an Oscar. Put this all together with the author of American Psycho and you get...

Poo. Pure poo. A jumbled, illogical mess that has some kind of message about AIDS, but ends up giving viewers the need to smother themselves with a pillow.

    Good night.

You know what is even worse then "The Hills" is a film that for some strange reason believes that when it becomes as shallow, vain and self-righteous its deep and insightful art. This is the type of film experience "The Informers" is

The potential was all there, but it just didn't make it. One thing I would say it lacks is quality on behalf of how the film moved and the general dynamic of the characters. For someone as glitzy as Bret Easton Ellis, the characters shone no real vibrancy that I knew of. I was i...( read more)rritated and bored by the end. We get it, you're vapid, have an epiphany already.

Very odd movie. I didn't really like it much. Really good cast, but it just seemed thrown together.

A very well made, amazingly acted drama about a bunch of vapid, shallow, selfish people, save for two people: Brad Renfro's character and Winona Ryder's. There is nudity within every 5 minutes, until about the last third, and it's hard to relate to most of them, but man, it's ski...( read more)llfully made. The directing, and especially the tight editing is fantastic. There are shots that look amazing, and it all seems reasonably realistic. I would also like to say that this is probably Renfro's best acting, and it makes me extremely sad that he is gone; if anyone of you haven't seen his turn in Bully, I recommend it, flawed film, brilliant performance. Here, he tops himself, and his scenes with Mickey Rourke are the movies best. The only problem is that there are too many plots and characters so it gets bogged down, but it's never hard to remember them or follow all of them, so that is good.

Not exactly the best transition from book-movie, but it really kept the theme and overall tone of the story. Lou Talyor Pucci was exactly the way I saw Tim and his whole segment was the strongest and most faithful to the novel. Jon Foster was also a really great choice for Graham...( read more) and although Mickey Rourke was nothing like his book counterpart, his performance was amazing. I love the Ray-Ban's and the devotion to 80's attire and hair.

Occasionally ambitious, but often manipulative sorrow-flick.

Wow was this movie bad. I could spend the rest of my day telling you how bad it was, but that would be spending more time than the movie itself deserves. I'm going to pretend this one doesn't even exist.
