Plot: Alex is an 11-year old boy who, during WWII, hides in the Jewish ghetto from Nazis after all the relatives have been sent to the concentration camp. The movie portrays the ghetto through his eyes.
This film was shown on TV one Saturday afternoon. I had no intention of watching it but after catching the first ten minutes I decided I'd give it a go - and I'm glad I did. It's based, in part, on the author's real-life experiences and, as such, is all the more amazing to watch. It's extremely moving in places but not over-sentimental. The performances - including the lead child actor - are all pretty solid. And the tension is built up very well when called for. A good Saturday afternoon movie.
