Critic Reviews

  • Dave Kehr, Chicago Reader

It's easy to spoof cliches; it's something else again to string them together with the insight into narrative structure these boys evidence.

  • Lawrence Van Gelder, New York Times

The range of its satire and comedy, as displayed in 22 segments running from a minute or two up to 30 minutes, is fairly narrow.

  • , Variety

The Kentucky Fried Movie boasts excellent production values and some genuine wit, though a few of the sketches are tasteless.

  • MaryAnn Johanson, Flick Filosopher

Saturday Night Live had been doing the same thing, only better, on TV for two years prior to this... and Monty Python had been doing something far more subversive and positively genius with their Flying Circus for nearly a decade prior...

One of my favourite spoof movies of the 70s, it's hilarious and spoofs both TV and film. The main part of the movie has a spoof of Enter the Dragon, which is one of the funniest things I've ever seen. There are a bunch of cameos to look for as well, so I highly recommend… More

A bit underdeveloped, but essentially that's why people love it. A precursor to the big funnies of Naked Gun and Airplane, Kentucky is odd, funny, and overall a 70's mishmash of cultural references too old for most to get, and nudity galore. Interesting overall.

A wonderful spoof film that hasn't aged very well visually, but still holds up comedically.
