Algunas partes estan bien logradas, otras solo son muy cursis, lo cierto es que esta bien filmada y bien actuada por Sam Waterston y en especial por Haing S. Ngor.-

Excellent film that follows the trials of a pair of journalists (Sam Waterston, an American and Haing Ngor, who is from Camboida) who are terrorized and barely escape alive from Cambodia while trying to cover the Vietnam War. It's nice to watch a film that isn't just shootous and...( read more) chaos in the middle of the jungles of Asia. Sam was incredible in an Oscar-nominated role and Dr. Ngor won Best Supporting Actor for a role he pretty much lived in his own life. Sadly, Ngor was shot and killed in a robbery attempt in 1996. He survived the Killing Fields in real life, but died in America. How ironic is that?

"The wind whispers of fear and hate. The war has killed love. And those that confess to the Angka are punished, and no one dare ask where they go. Here, only the silent survive"

    5/10

The Killing Fields is a movie split right down the middle. The first half is attrociously ...( read more)bad but the second half is good and literally saves the film.

The first half of the film is undone by bafflingly out-of-place and over-the-top music. Most of the acting is average or sub-par and the plot doesn't flow very smoothly. The second half is the film's saving grace and tells the story of Dith Pran's life under the treachery of the Khmer Rouge. There are some powerful scenes as with most films focusing on genocides but the rest of the film is not strong enough to match up to those scenes.

The Killing Fields is worth watching for the second half but it is horribly dated and incoherent.

An engrossing true account of living under the Khmer Rouge. I was first shown this movie as part of an American history class over four years ago, and the amazing cinematography and full force acting still stick in my mind. I will always remember the scene in which Dith Pran must...( read more) pretend he doesn't understand what is being said on the radio. It is unfortunate that Mr. Pran is no longer living, as he was eager to correspond with anyone interested in his life and experiences; my teacher encouraged all of her students to e-mail him if they had questions, and various classmates staggered across the years had in-depth correspondence with him.

On a personal note, I went to school with one of the kids that was featured in the movie - he said what they protrayed was tame compared to what happened *shudders*

It takes a lot for a movie of this genre to impress me, and although right now I can't think of an example of one that has managed, I know it can be done. The direction by Roland Joffé along with the Oscar-winning cinematography by Chris Menges bring the story to vivid life. There are a few times when the music distracts but, thankfully, those instances are the exception rather than the rule. The ending sequence, featuring John Len...( read more)non's "Imagine", is particularly touching though now bitterly ironic given Haing S. Ngor's murder a dozen years after this film. This is a compelling story of hope in the face of tyranny.
