This may be the only film where you actually get to see a woman giving birth to a fully grown man... ouch!

Accept no imitations! This is the real thing! Imagine ER in a haunted hospital. Surreal, intriguing and scary.

Twin Peaks meets The Shining. A four and half hour epic that terrifies while at the same time makes you laugh. This was a mini-phenomenon when it first aired on Danish TV. Von Trier is clearly satirizing soap operas like General Hospital and even ER, but what makes it inspiring f...( read more)or Independent filmmakers is how he manages to create such an atmosphere with very little. It's not surprising that a year later he helped create the Dogma movement. The most memorable thing about this mini-series (apart from some chilling images) are the wild assortment of quirky characters. Simply put: The Kingdom is a terrific ghost story. (Inspired Stephen King to do a remake.) Von Trier later made a sequel that ran 5 hours and was more comedic. It brought back all the great characters but apart from a couple grisly moments it sadly never maintaned the same chilling atmosphere.

I'm a big fan of productions like Twin Peaks and Wristcutters, which contains a multitude of odd characters and strange dialogue.
So it just naturell for me to like The Kingdom (Riget).
In here you'll find Udo Kier's most bizzare part so far.
Watch it and decide for yourself.

Wonderful, the original is even better, but King did an excellent job! Love it!

This is so much better than the Stephen King version - if you must watch the U.S. version, please watch this one (the original) first!! It's gritty, creepy, funny - what more could you want!?
