The film does an excellent job at managing the difficult task of tracking massive historical upheavals while keeping tightly focused on the people forced to live through such tumultuous changes.
It's been a while since a new movie made me cry, but through parts of this I just couldn't hold back the tears. It's not the kind of movie I would choose to see, but a friend asked me to go and i'm so greatful she did. There is much beauty in this movie, and also much sadness, but it is ultimately redeeming. I've just read a review saying that audience members who cry take themselves too seriously. In a few words (and forgive my language), Fuck you! Isn't that what cinema's all about? Creating passion? I recommend this to all, compulsive viewing.
They did a great job transitioning this from book to movie. This story lets you into the life of Afghanastan before, during and after the Russian invasion. There are some gritty parts that I think show the reality of the situation. I recommend this to all.
Story of friendship of two boys in Afghanistan who experience some truly harrowing things, and that's not even counting the Russian invasion of that country. Shows some of the ruthlessness of the Taliban regime. Great story; strong, believable performances by the cast. My only complaint is that it is a bit slow paced. I found the content to be somewhat disturbing, but that's because anything involving child abuse affects me that way.
This story is so sad! 2 guys grew up together, became best freinds...later one of them has to move away! so one lives in america the other in afghanistan. time passes. the guy in afghanistan is killed so the guy from america returns to afghanistan years later to take care of his best freind's son.
well are you made of ice this movie touches every hair of humanity there is first is the kid who no matter what will be loyal and a true friend then the coward and insecure and thebully and mostly envy runs this people and envy of races against themselves because they come from the same place still is a great and heartwharming movie this is just great long the longer the better because if it was shorter then the story would be compromised!! you need to know what happens to make him be what he is in the end that makes him so different to the person in the beggining even that they are the same person!! for me it wnet there and it reached a goal!!
plus what they did with the kites it was magnificient!! great shots and graphs!! loved it looked like jets fights!!! I really don't know how they break the other lines!! awesome!!
In a divided country on the verge of war, two childhood friends, Amir and Hassan, are about to be torn apart forever. It's a glorious afternoon in Kabul and the skies are bursting with the exhilarating joy of a kite-fighting tournament. But in the aftermath of the day's victory, one boy's fearful act of betrayal will mark their lives forever and set in motion an epic quest for redemption. Now, after 20 years of living in America, Amir returns to a perilous Afghanistan under the Taliban's iron-fisted rule to face the secrets that still haunt him and take one last daring chance to set things right.
I'M READING THIS BOOK AND I LOVE IT SO MUCH, I WANT TO SEE THIS SO BAD! The Main character makes me question the fluidity of morals and ethics so much.
Was in Kabul 1n 1977, this movie starts out there, in 1978, it is extremely well done. It will take at least 5 more years of committment in Afghanistan to help them, otherwise, another big waste of lives.
