What an absurdly fun and funny movie. Barbara Stanwyck played conniving, sexy, and witty so effortlessly well. Totally respectable and look up-able. Unlike a lot of other women of her day she was that- a woman, not a girl child.
And Henry Fonda is actually really awesome playing...( read more)

Barbara Stanwyck is at her comedic best in "The Lady Eve",playing a vamp who tries to con a gullible heir, played wonderfully by Henry Fonda. Her plans don't go accordingly when she finds herself falling for him, which leads to some madcap fun. Both the leads are superb. Especially...( read more)

Barbara Stanwyck is a sexy card shark's daughter that accidentally falls for the millionaire they're supposed to be sharking. Peter Fonda and Barbara Stanwyck make an adorable if not unlikely couple that, through Sturges' awkward comedic interludes, find their way from amusement...( read more)

This screwball comedy has all the conventions down perfectly. The sexy female, the clumsy male, the repressed emotions, the silly pratfalls. Sturges brings everything together in this delightfully romantic and electrifying story. The real treat is watching the actors squirm throu...( read more)

"I wonder if now would be the time to tell you about Herman..."
As much as I admire Sullivan's Travels for its social conscience and Unfaithfully Yours for its unusual darkness of tone, The Lady Eve is my favourite of the Preston Sturges movies I've s...( read more) -

I loved this movie, Barbara Stanwyck totally won me over with her sexy, witty and cunning role, definitely want to see more of her!. And Henry Fonda, what a silly goof.
I'm usually not a fan of romantic comedies, but I'm happy to make an exception here!

I like silver screen classics but this was one I could not enjoy. The story moves so fast and plugs along and forgets the idea of common sense. The leading lady is despicable and the characters surrounding her are grade A idiots. I found nothing humorous about this and any joke...( read more)

Right from the beginning, this movie is full of great dialogue and interesting characters. There are no huge out-loud laughs, but I'm pretty sure I smiled throughout the entire film. The two main characters are a great match, and it is a pleasure watching and observing their rela...( read more)

The Lady Eve is a fantastic romantic comedy with a really compelling lead actress in Barbara Stanwyck. Fun, flirty and one of the best comedies that I've ever seen period.

Best on-screen chemistry for a romantic comedy. A smart movie too, I might add! My favourite Barbara Stanwyck movie!

Funny, but rather confused character motivation. Not the most pleasing of the screwball comedies.

It's extremely difficult for me to choose my favorite Barbara Stanwyck movie so far, but this one is it -- so far. In addition to being a knockout beauty, Stanwyck has got to be one of the most talented actresses I've ever seen.
This is an excellent comedy in the screwball r

Babs play this cardshark with her father and another man who preys on Henry Fonda on a ship, but doesn't count on falling in love with him. I liked this movie but at times, I just want to tell Babs, shut up!! especially in the scene where they got married and she starts telling ...( read more)

Again, Preston Sturges: exceedingly smart and witty. Barbara Stanwyck is both sexy and sufficiently silly in this great movie. Henry Fonda is hilarious as the "aw shucks" target of her con.

Barbara Stanwyck is an enjoyable player to watch and her comic timing is impeccable. -

A great, great movie. Stanwyck is incredible and Fonda plays a great doofus who is as clumsy as he is endearing. The first half on the boat is great but the last half is a bit more brilliantly ridiculous. You can't go wrong with this one.

By the end of the film you are not quite sure what is what which seems typical of screwball comedies. However, the chemistry of the actors and the effervescence of the script send this film into the ethereal realm of filmic legend.
