Plot: Get ready for some seriously big hair. The Last Dragon--or, to call it by its full title, Berry Gordy's the Last Dragon--is a stunning example of 1980s camp cinema. One-name kung fu wond...( read more read more... )er Taimak plays Leroy Green, a.k.a. Bruce Leroy, a humble student of kung fu who has achieved the highest level of skill, but hasn't yet found his inner master. Wandering through the streets of New York in a Chinese peasant outfit, he accidentally becomes the protector of nightclub hostess/video jockey Laura Charles (played by former Prince protégé Vanity, who also costarred in the trash classic Action Jackson). She's being threatened by a height-challenged mobster who wants her to play his girlfriend's video (the girlfriend is something of a Cyndi Lauper look-alike, played by Broadway star Faith Prince). Meanwhile, a man who calls himself Sho'Nuff, the Shogun of Harlem, wants to kick Leroy's ass and prove himself the baddest kung fu master in town. Add to this Leroy's smart-mouthed brother Richie (who calls Leroy "the chocolate-covered yellow peril"), a dregs-of-Motown soundtrack (DeBarge is a high point), ninja battles, pseudo-Eastern philosophical babble, and a jaw-dropping club performance by Vanity, and you have a hilarious example of why we're all so very glad the '80s are over. Featuring a bit role by William H. Macy (Fargo, Magnolia). --Bret Fetzer

This is the definite cult classic. Every time I watch this I am taken back to better less stressful days.
Everything about this movie spells: C-A-M-P. and it is definitely in all caps!
The soundtrack, the acting, the special f/x were ALL top shelf!
Tai Mak was a star that didn't shine as bright as its potential.

Suprisingly AWESOME! Unapologetically 80s! The film doesn't have any clue how ridiculous it is and for that I love it! I could watch it over and over. I'd love to see a double feature of Enter the Dragon and The Last Dragon. This one is going on my list to own.

There is nothing quite like 80's Kung Fu. The Last Dragon is a film about a black fung fu master who doesn't know he is a master. He is trying to find someone to teach him more about the art. It's a movie about love and self discovery.

The main character is called Bruce LeRoy. He fights a street samurai named Sho'nuff, The Shogun of Harlem. This movie is hilariously cheesy. The fighting is not bad for the 80's. I have seen worse.

    Rent this for a laugh.

You can say what you want about this movie, but it was really cool. The overall theme seems kinda cheesy, but it really is an entertaining movie. I even have teh soundtrack to this movie. *laughs* It's great stuff if you like stuff from the 80s like myself.

Also known as "Berry Gordy's The Last Dragon". An over-the-top 80s kung-fu action/comedy. Taimak is great as the boyish Bruce Lee-obsessed hero (Leroy Green, or "Bruce Leroy"). But the real gem here is Julius Carry's Sho'Nuff - The Shogun of Harlem. The movie is played very straight by the actors, but at the same time knows it's a comedy. It's very rooted in the 80s and 80s pop culture (including the disappointing Vanity) play a big role in the story. As long as the setting/era of the movie doesn't put you off, there's a lot here to enjoy.
